Christine and the Queens Life

Hélo Adélade Letissier (French pronunciation: [el adelaid ltisje]; born 1 June 1988; sometimes simply Chris; born in France) is a French singer and songwriter. Born and raised in Nantes, he began playing piano at the age of four and gained interest in one of London's clubs when studying. Letissier produced a line of extended plays from 2011-2013.

Chaleur humaine (2014), his debut album, received critical acclaim on both French and UK charts, and was also rated diamond in France; it was also the best-selling debut in the United Kingdom. Chris' second album, which was released in 2018, received more critical acclaim. It was ranked album of the year by Clash, The Guardian, and The Independent, and was ranked in the top ten of nine other year-end lists. Time named "Girlfriend" as the year's best song of the year. Letissier's mother's death in 2020 was the catalyst for his debut in an EP La Vita Nuova, with some commentators naming it his best work up to that point. "People, I've Been Sad," Time's annual favorite, was renamed again.

Letissier was ranked No. 1 on Vanity Fair's list of the most influential and influential French people in 2016, ahead of the country's president. Forbes put him on its list of the 30 Most Influential and Talented People under the age of 30, and Time included him on its list of Next Generation Leaders twice – in 2016 and 2018. Four Victories of Music have been coveted by the French Ministry of Culture, among other things. Since 2012, Christine and the Queens have been signed to the independent record label Because Music.

Early life

Hélo Adélade Letissier was born in Nantes on June 1, 1988. Georges Letissier, his father, taught English literature at the University of Nantes and specializes in Victorian period literature. Martine Letissier's mother taught both French and Latin at a local middle school. At the age of four, he began learning to play the piano, learned classical dance at five, and then modern-jazz. His parents recommended to him writers such as Sarah Waters and Judith Butler, whose books served as both inspiration and reference in Letissier's youth. He attended Lycée Autenceau's learning theatre and then Lycée Fénelon secondary school in Paris learning literature. He then studied at the École normale supérieure de Lyon (ENS Lyon) and also studied drama at the Lyon Regional Conservatory (fr).

Letissier had to leave the theater conservatory in 2010 because of his marital breakdown. He traveled to London and was inspired by the work of local drag queens, including Russella, at Madame Jojo's Soho nightclub. In his stage name, the queens were then referred to as "the Queens" as a tribute. As soon as he returned to France, he left the ENSL grande école in the middle of the second year to devote himself completely to the musical project titled "Christine and the Queens." He dedicated several of his creations to them and to all transgender people, referring to them as "freakpop."

Personal life

Letissier is pansexual. He told Attitude, a monthly magazine that publishes essays about him, that he is genderqueer. He told The New York Times in March 2022 that he used all pronouns after tweeting in June 2021: "My journey with gender has always been tumultuous." Right now, it's raging as I'm still searching for something that isn't related to this. "A way to express it could be a dividing between them and her." In August of the same year, he said in a TikTok video in French that his gender journey was "a lengthy process" and that he had gendered himself in the masculine for about a year, which he shared with family and close friends. He modified his pronouns to him/him on social media pages.
