The entire country is suffering from the worst drought on record, with strict measures in place to limit water use, but more than 100 parched communes don't even have the option to ration their supply. No water relief in the suffocating heat is a tale told around Europe, with Spain, Italy, Portugal, and Germany all under emergency measures. The unusually hot and dry summer, as well as a lack of snow in the Alps, has contributed to the country's shortage, which has been exacerbated by the lethal wildfires that have killed much of the region, with eight of them still active. More than 1,000 firefighters, nine planes, and two water bomber helicopters have been sent to combat the fires raging through four French departments, as locals described the sky as 'roaring like the ocean' in the 'hellish' scenes.
