Chris Mars (born April 26, 1961) is an American painter and singer.
He was drummer for the seminal Minneapolis alternative-rock band The Replacements from 1979 to 1990, and then he joined the informal band Golden Smog before starting his solo career.
In the late 1990s, Mars more or less left music in order to concentrate on his artwork.

Solo career
Horseshoes and Hand Grenades (1992), Mars' first solo album, was a surprise for fans and critics who were used to his brief presence in The Replacements. In addition to assisting with lead and backing vocals, he wrote every track and performed drums, guitar, and keyboards. J.D. is the only exception, other than the presence of bass guitarist J.D. It was essentially a D.I.Y., with Foster and a brief contribution from Soul Asylum's Dave Pirner and Dan Murphy. The affair was not a success. Mars took the lead with 75% less fat a year later.
Mars was not keen on touring behind his third album, Tenterhooks (1995), so the Wallmen, a British band, toured behind it with a cardboard cutout of Mars, which was placed onstage. He had one more album, Anonymous Botch (1996), before focusing completely on his visual arts work.
