Chet Faker Life

Nicholas James Murphy (born 23 June 1988), also known as Chet Faker on stage, is an Australian singer and songwriter.

He began a longer play, Thinking in Textures, in 2012 and signed to Downtown Records in the United States.

In October 2012, he received Best Independent Single/EP at the Australian Independent Record Awards, and Thinking in Textures received Best Independent Single/EP at the Australian Independent Records Awards.

The work was awarded Best Independent Release at the Rolling Stone Australia Awards in January 2013 for "No Diggity" by Blackstreet (as Chet Faker) in a 2013 Super Bowl commercial for Beck's Sapphire.

Built on Glass, his debut studio album, received mainly favorable feedback in April 2014 and debuted at number one on the Australian ARIA Charts.

Three tracks from the album were chosen into the top ten of Triple J's Hottest 100 of 2014, including the top ten for "Talk Is Cheap" at number one.

Since September 2016, he has appeared and released material under his birth name.

Chet Faker Career

Career

Since people came to his shows and discovered he was a new and well-known artist, Nick Murphy, Murphy performed under his stage name. When he first began to mainstream singing, he chose the name as a tribute to Chet Baker: "I listened to a lot of jazz, and I was a big fan of... the way he performed." He had this remarkably fragile vocal style —this really is a fractured, close-up, and intimate style. The name is sort of an ode to Chet Baker and the time he played — something I'd like to do at least pay homage to in my own music." Bob Dylan, as well as his mother's Motown albums and his father's "chilled out Ibiza CDs" are among his influences.

He first came to fame after his coverage of Blackstreet's "No Diggity" went viral on social media, reaching the top of the Hypemachine chart in May 2011. On March 22, 2012, he launched Thinking in Textures, his first extended play, which was described as "wonderfully loungey" and praised for its ability to "mix subtlety with stunning beauty." The EP's second single, "I'm Into You," debuted on Triple J's Hottest 100 of 2012.

Murphy has performed with Flume and remixed songs by MS MR and The Temper Trap. He appeared on "Fool of Me," Say Lou Lou Lou's Best New Track by Pitchfork in May 2013.

Murphy's latest single, "Melt," stars American singer Kilo Kish, was released on August 12th. Lockjaw, Flume and Murphy's EP, was released in November 2013. On April 11, Murphy's debut studio album, Built on Glass, was released. The album's complete launch was preceded by its lead single, "Talk Is Cheap," and a accompanying music video on February 11, 2014. The album debuted on the ARIA Charts as number one.

Murphy appeared at the Boston Calling Music Festival in May 2015. "Talk Is Cheap" was the number one song in the 2014 Triple J Hottest 100, while "Gold" and "1998," two other singles, also reached the top ten, placing at number 7 and 8, respectively. Murphy debuted "Bend," a newly unveiled track for Built on Glass in June. In October, his Australian Built on Live tour promoted it.

On December 4, 2016, Murphy unveiled a new EP, Work, a London-based DJ duogar's collaboration with London-based DJ Marcus Marr.

"It's been half a decade since I started releasing music as Chet Faker," the artist posted on his Facebook page on September 8, 2016, and many of you have been the driving force behind the band since. There's a revolution going on and I wanted to let you know where it's going. Nick Murphy, my own name, will be used for the new year. Chet Faker will always be a part of the band. This is the next step.

Murphy revived Chet Faker's social media pages in October 2020 and released "Low," his first single under the Chet Faker moniker since 2016. This was his first exposure through BMG Australia & New Zealand, with whom he had recently signed a record deal.

On the female-dominated Hottest 100 Like A Version list, a female musician slams Triple J's male-dominated Hottest 100 Like A Version list before admitting she didn't even vote in the campaign

www.dailymail.co.uk, July 19, 2023
In a fiery rant on Tuesday, a female singer slammed Triple J's Hottest 100 Like a Version list. Kelly Hellmrich, the bassist for now defunct Aussie band Camp Cope, blasted TikTok's list for a lack of women and minorities. Kelly said that men from Toorak's exclusive private school St Kevin's won the Hottest 100 more times than any woman combined.
