Life and career
McDermott attended high school in Wilmington, Delaware, before enrolling in and graduating from 8PA Leadership Charter School (PALCS), a cyber school in Pennsylvania. At the age of 16, he moved to Los Angeles.
He has been involved in a variety of television shows, including The Office and Private Practice, since 2004. Axl Heck of The Middle, Wild Bill in Disappearances, and T.J. Eddy in Frozen River are his best roles to date. He was nominated for an Independent Spirit Award as the Best Supporting Actor for his Frozen River appearance in 2008.
