Charles Coburn Life

Charles Douville Coburn (June 19, 1877 – August 30, 1961) was an American actor.

In The Devil and Miss Jones (1941), The More the Merrier (1943), and The Green Years (1946) he was nominated for a Best Supporting Actor Academy Award three times, including for his role in The More the Merrier.

In 1960, he was named on the Hollywood Walk of Fame for his contribution to the film industry.

Personal life

On January 29, 1906, Coburn married Ivah Wills (born August 19, 1878) in Atlanta, Georgia. They had six children. Ivah died on December 3, 1937, in New York City, of congestive heart disease at the age of 59. Winifred Natzka, an 82-year-old Coburn, was born in Los Angeles on June 30, 1959. She was the widow of New Zealand bass opera singer Oscar Natzka. They had one child, a daughter.

Coburn spent his days at the National Arts Club in New York City in the 1940s. His late mother was born there with him.

On August 30, 1961 in New York City, Coburn died of a heart attack at the age of 84. Winifred has migrated to New Zealand.
