Chairil Anwar Life

Chairil Anwar (1922 – 28 April 1949) was an Indonesian writer and a member of the "1945 Generation" of writers.

He is thought to have written 96 books, including 70 individual poems. Anwar was born and raised in Medan, North Sumatra, before his mother moved to Batavia, where he first entered the local literary circles in 1940.

Anwar began to write after releasing his first poem in 1942.

However, his poems were censored by the Japanese, who later occupied Indonesia.

Anwar wrote extensively about death, often in relation to death.

He died in Jakarta from an unknown disease. His books dealt with a variety of subjects, including death, individualism, and existentialism, and were often multi-interpretable.

Anwar wrote his poetry with everyday words and modern syntax, which has been cited as aiding in the language's evolution.

His poems were often assembled irregularly, but with specific designs.

Personal life

When the latter submitted his poetry to Pandji Pustaka in 1943, HB Jassin recalls that the Anwar was "thin, pale, and seemed unkempt." Anwar's eyes were "red, [and] a little wild, but always like he was lost in thought," although his movements were similar to "one who plain didn't bother."

According to Yampolsky, Anwar gave his acquaintances a number of anecdotes, including kleptomania, plagiarism, womanizing, and being always ill. This was turned into Achdiat Karta Mihardy's novel Atheis' characterization of Anwar; Anwar's colleague Nasjah Djamin notes that the characterization accurately represented Anwar's nonchalance, impoliteness, and arrogance.
