Carolina Herrera Career

Career and brand

Herrera began her career as a publicist for Emilio Pucci, a Florentine Marquis herself and a close family friend. She began working at Pucci's Caracas boutique and later moved to New York in 1980. She is best known for her dramatic style and enjoys her time at Studio 54. She first appeared on the International Best Dressed List in 1972, and then in 1980, she was elected to the Hall of Fame. Diana Vreeland, then Editor-in-Chief of Vogue, suggested that Carolina develop a clothing collection in 1981. She did so by obtaining samples in Caracas and launching her collection at the Metropolitan Club in Manhattan to critical acclaim. Martha's, a well-known Park Avenue boutique, has decided to display her clothing in their prominent windows. Following this initial success, she returned to Caracas and raised money to finance a more formal launch. Future supermodel Iman attended her first runway show in 1980. At Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week in New York, Carolina Herrera reveals her Ready-to-Wear Collection semiannually.

The company has been headquartered in New York City since 1980, and in 1981, it was recognized by a number of influential publications, including Women's Wear Daily and Tatler, for the company's well-designed sleeves, which attracted particular interest. Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis, who requested her to design the dress for her daughter Caroline's wedding, to Prince Charles-Philippe of Orléans, Duke of Anjou, and actress Renée Zellweger were among her most recent clients.

Puig, a Spanish fragrance firm, granted the Carolina Herrera brand in the late 1980s to produce and sell a line of perfumes. The company purchased the Carolina Herrera fashion company in 1995, keeping her as Creative Director. CH Carolina Herrera, a ready-to-wear brand, was launched in 2008; as of 2012, there were 18 Carolina Herrera and CH Carolina Herrera boutiques in the world, and her lines were sold in 280 stores in 104 countries. Carolina Jr. and Patricia Lansing, both of whom were children in 2011 and 2012, were involved in the creative direction and design. According to WWD, the fragrance side of the company sold more than 25,000 points of sale around the world in February 2016, while the CH brand had 129 freestanding stores.

The first commercial for the brand was released in 2015, starring models Elisabeth Erm and Joséphine Le Tutour.

Herrera reported in July that her latest women's fragrance would be available in September, her first fragrance launch in 14 years. The scent is titled 'Good Girl,' and Karlie Kloss is the front of the line.'

Herrera displayed her last line for her eponymous brand in 2018 before handing over the brand's creative directorship to Wes Gordon.

Herrera was named "Womenswear Designer of the Year" in 2008 and the Council of Fashion Designers of America's Geoffrey Beene Lifetime Achievement Award and "Womenswear Designer of the Year" in 2008. Herrera was given the Award of Excellence by the International Center in New York, as well as Spain's Gold Medal for Merit in the Fine Arts, which was presented to her in 2002 by King Juan Carlos I. In 1997, she was given the Gold Medal of the Queen Sofa Spanish Institute.

In 2012, she was named "Mercedes-Benz Presents" Award, the Fashion Group International Superstar Award, the Style Awards Designer of the Year, and "Mercedes-Benz Presents" honor for her 2011 collection. She has been on the front page of Vogue seven times.

Mimi Soss' board of directors and, since 2004, she has served on the board of directors of jewelry designer Mimi Sose and, since 1999, she has served on the CFDA's board of directors.

During the International Achievement Summit in New York City in 2005, she received the Golden Plate Award of the American Academy of Achievement.

She received the 2014 Couture Council Award for Artistry of Fashion in 2014.

LIZ JONES: I so wanted Meghan to be fulfilled. But these NINE outfits made me realise she was going from Duchess to D-List

www.dailymail.co.uk, October 19, 2024
Clothes, of course, are a window to a woman's soul. So, one wonders, what on earth is Meghan trying to tell us with her new style direction? A fortnight ago, the Duchess of Sussex turned up on the red carpet in an overly revealing Carolina Herrera U-neck - I prefer to call it a U-bend - split-hem dress that was truly surprising in its dishevelment and inappropriateness for a children's charity gala event. And it wasn't just her ill-fitting dress: Meghan's hair looked wet and tangled, and her toes were exposed in skimpy sandals.

Kate Middleton cleverly alters her clothes to protect her modesty - and how Meghan can learn from her styling tricks

www.dailymail.co.uk, October 13, 2024
Royal women have access to a plethora of designers, eager for their creations to be showcased on a global scale. However, original designs don't always comply with royal protocol, prompting some ladies to modify revealing necklines and daring slits to create bespoke pieces. Rather than constantly searching for new outfits, some, like Kate Middleton, choose to refashion existing dresses, as she famously did with her floral Alexander McQueen gown.

Does Meghan Markle have a new revenge wardrobe? Duchess adopts more revealing fashion choices that 'reflect independence and freedom'

www.dailymail.co.uk, October 12, 2024
During a recent stream of public appearances, Meghan Markle (pictured) has been wearing some increasingly racy outfits - prompting some to suggest that she has adopted a new 'revenge wardrobe' as she hits out at her critics in the wake of increasing pressure. Her most recent skin-baring ensemble was a bold scarlet Carolina Herrera frock, with a plunging neckline, tight fit, and daring front slit, which she donned while posing on the green carpet at the Children's Hospital Los Angeles Gala last weekend. It marked the second time she donned the gown, first stepping out in it to attend the Intrepid Museum's Salute To Freedom Gala in New York in November 2021 with Prince Harry. However, the first time she wore it, it featured a large bell skirt and train, giving it a less racy look. And the 43-year-old's style 'has most definitely evolved as she is now showcasing more daring and casual looks (like she used to) that reflect her independence and newfound freedom from her previous royal protocols' according to one expert.
