Carlos Ponce (born September 4, 1972) is a Puerto Rican actor, singer, composer and television personality.

Ponce began his acting career by participating in Spanish language soap operas for Televisa and Telemundo.

Ponce continued to expand his acting career by participating in various American television series.

He did not limit himself solely to a career in television.

Ponce, who is also a singer, is also active in the American movie industry as a character actor.

In film, he played Salvadore in Couples Retreat, Matthew Wright in Spy and Rodrigo in Deuce Bigalow: European Gigolo.

In television, he played Felix Gonzalez in Cristela, Max Duran in Hollywood Heights, as well as voicing Santiago Santos in Maya and Miguel.

Early life

Ponce was born in Santurce, Puerto Rico. His parents, Carlos Ponce Sr. and Esther Freyre, emigrated from Cuba after the Cuban Revolution led by Fidel Castro. After his birth, the family moved to Humacao, where Ponce was raised. As a child, he actively participated in his school's plays and at home he would often put on a show for the family where he would sing the latest tunes. "Carlitos", as he is known in Puerto Rico, started to appear in television commercials at the age of six. He attended high school in Humacao and was a member of the school's drama club.

In 1986, the Ponce family moved to Miami, Florida, and Ponce continued to participate in his school's productions at South Miami Senior High. He was named the best student actor of the southern region of the United States .

In 1990, Ponce participated in the Southeastern Theatre Conference and competed for the chance to win a scholarship. He won and enrolled in the New World School of the Arts conservatory. However, the Spanish-language television station Univision offered Ponce the opportunity to host a show called Hablando (Talking). This was his first serious television debut and after his debut he gave up his university studies.

Personal life

Ponce married his high school sweetheart, photographer Verónica Rubio, the sister of current U.S. Senator Marco Rubio. They resided in Miami, Florida, with their four children: Giancarlo (born 1999), Sebastián (born 2001), and twins Savannah and Sienna (born 2002). In 2010, the couple divorced.

From 2010 to 2016, he was in a relationship with Colombian actress Ximena Duque.

In 2018, he began a relationship with Mexican television host Karina Banda. They married in December 2020.

Ponce went to Mexico to visit a friend after Hablando came to an end. While visiting the Televisa television station, he toured the Televisa television station. Ponce was visited by the station's talent director, who gave him his first appearance in a soap opera called Guadalupe, starring Adela Noriega and Eduardo Yáz. With his appearance in Beverly Hills, 90210, and 7th Heaven, where he portrayed Jessica Biel's character Mary Camden's husband. He has appeared in Live with Regis and Kathie Lee as well as in Donny & Marie.

Ponce appeared in the film Chasing Papi with fellow Latinos Roselyn Sánchez, Lisa Vidal, Walter Mercado, Colombian actress Sofa Vergara, and Latin pop singer Jaci Velásquez. After this film, he travelled to New Zealand to film Meet Me in Miami.

Ponce appeared in the film Deuce Bigalow: An European Gigolo, for a brief period of time in 2005.

Ponce appeared in the controversial recording of the Star-Spangled Banner in Spanish-language, including Wyclef Jean, Gloria Trevi, and Olga Taono. In Los Angeles, he and Nancy O'Dell and Carson Kressley hosted the Miss Universe 2006 pageant. He appeared in the film Just My Luck, with Lindsay Lohan, Chris Pine, and McFly.

Ponce appeared on VH1's reality show Viva Hollywood!, which featured twelve Latino actors competing for the title of "America's Numero Uno Telenovela Star" in 2008.

Ponce appeared in the second season of Lipstick Jungle in 2009, where he portrayed Rodrigo, a male character. Later, he said that he accepted the position because it would "benefit" his career. He appeared in Couples Retreat as a yoga instructor earlier this year.

Ponce appeared on ABC's Cristela as Felix, the male lead on the program from 2014 to 2015.

Carlos appeared in Julie and the Phantoms as the titular character's father, Ray Molina.

Emilio Estefan Jr. and Kike Santander joined Ponce in 1998 for a record deal. Carlos Ponce's debut album was released on Maya and featured three of his own compositions. In the Hispanic community of the United States, the album debuted in the top spot in the Latin Billboards for nine weeks. It also landed in Central America and South America at the top of the charts. He was given a Double Platinum Award for the number of his albums' sales.

He also appeared in ABC's drama series Once and Again.

Ponce was one of 100 Latin American singers who came together to honor the victims by releasing "Precio Adiós" ("Last Good-Bye" after the September 11, 2001 attacks. The proceeds of the recording were donated to the victims' families. Ponce and Mexican actress Angélica Rivera appeared in the Televisa film Sin Pecado Concebido in the same year. Ponce, his third studio album, was released in 2002; later that year, he signed a deal with Telemundo to produce Promuno de la Musica, one of the most famous Hispanic programs in the United States and Puerto Rico; Protagonista de la Musica became one of the most famous Hispanic programs in the United States and Puerto Rico.
