Carlo Dante Rota (born 17 April 1961) is a British-Canadian actor best known to Canadian audiences for his appearance on Little Mosque on the Prairie and in the FOX series 24 as systems analyst Morris O'Brian.

Emilio Solano also appears in Jane the Virgin as Emilio Solano.

Early life

Rota was born in London, England, to Italian parents, Rina, who worked in restaurant management, and Dante Rota, a chef. He grew up in Osterley with two sisters and one brother. He has lived in many parts of the world, including Hong Kong (where he attended Island School), the Bahamas, and the United Kingdom, before his family settled in Toronto. Rota worked in the catering industry for many years, operating and owning several restaurants in Toronto until he decided to pursue an acting career. During his book Inside Section One: Creating and Producing TV's La Femme Nikita, he said of this decision: he explained it.

Personal life

On 1 April 2010, Rota married 24 and Relic Hunter (met on camera) and Nazneen Contractor Nazneen Contractor. They have two children, a son, and a daughter.

Rota spent nine months in Los Angeles, California, during his time on the show 24. In an interview with the Toronto Star, he said he considers Toronto his home. He owned a house in Queen Street West as of 2008, having lived on and off in the region for at least 20 years.

Career

Rota landed roles in the Canadian television series Street Legal and the critically acclaimed Canadian independent film Thirty Two Short Films About Glenn Gould. He hosted the Great Canadian Food Show in Canada, which was also honoured for the coveted James Beard Award for Excellence in Culinary Journalism due to his work before acting.

He has appeared in several popular television shows, including 24, Queer as Folk (US version), Castle, La Femme Nikita, Relic Hunter, Adventure Inc, A Nero Wolfe Mystery, The Gospel of John, and Traders. Rota co-starred in CBC sitcom Little Mosque on the Prairie, as Lebanese-Canadian construction contractor Yasir Hamoudi. In Saw V, Rota portrayed Charles, a writer for The Herald, in 2008.

Morris O'Brian, Chloe O'Brian's arrogant but brilliant computer scientist husband, appeared in many episodes on season 6, on Sunday.

Rota appeared on the TV series La Femme Nikita (1997-2001), as the smarmy, green-listed terrorist informant, Mick Schtoppel, later revealed to be Mr. Jones, the head of Center, an agency above Oversight that oversees all Sections. Mr. Jones is now revealed to be another cover name for Reginald "Martin" Henderson. Henderson is revealed to be an actor assisting Center as a decoy for Mr. Jones.

Rota starred in the 1999 film The Boondock Saints as crime boss Giuseppe "Papa Joe" Yakavetta. Tyler Jesseman appeared in the 2000 Disney Channel Original Movie Phantom of the Megaplex as the film producer.

Carl Strom, founder of the International Oversight Advisory Committee that oversees the Atlantis expedition and its funding, as well as roles on CSI: NY, Human Target, Castle, Bones, and Grimm has appeared in several other television series, including Stargate Universe, as well as roles in numerous other television series, including "The Ghost" on White Collar.
