Cameron Ezike Giles (born February 4, 1976), better known by his stage name Cam'ron, is an American rapper, record producer, actor, and philanthropist from Harlem, New York.
Beginning his career in the mid-1990s as Killa Cam, Giles, signed to Lance "Un" Rivera's Untertainment, Epic's Under Armour, and revealed his first two studio albums Confessions of Fire and S.D.E. Sport Drugs & Entertainment (1998) and 2000 respectively; the former received Gold status by the RIAA).
Giles released his third studio album Come Home With Me the following year, and the RIAA awarded Platinum status for both Cam'ron and the Billboard Hot 100, respectively, after requesting his release from Epic;
Purple Haze's fourth studio album and final release on Roc-A-Fella came in 2004 to critical acclaim and commercial success, earning the RIAA's gold award. After separating his brand Diplomat Records from Roc-A-Fella in 2005 due to differences between himself and label-head Jay-Z, Cam'ron joined Asylum Records in a distribution contract.
Cam'ron's fifth studio album, Killa Season, contained a film of the same name in which Cam'ron made his director-screenwriter debut and starred as the main protagonist.
Cam'ron returned to music in 2009 after taking a hiatus due to his mother's health, and his sixth studio album Crime Pays was released.
It has risen to number 3 on the Billboard 200. He is the founder of The Diplomats (also known as Dipset), a club that he founded in 1997 with his childhood friend Jim Jones and his cousin Freekey Zekey aside from his solo career.
He was also one half of the United Nations (Us Now) and a founding member of the Children of the Corn before they disbanded in 1997.
Giles has also performed as an actor, appearing in the Roc-A-Fella films Paper Soldiers and Paid in full in 2002.
Personal life
Cam'ron was out of a nightclub in Washington, D.C., on October 23, 2005, having appeared the day before at Howard University. A passenger of a nearby car threatened Cam'ron to "give up" his 2006 Lamborghini while parked at a traffic light at the intersection of New York and New Jersey Avenues right after midnight. Cam'ron resisted, and the guy fired him right away, and Cam'ron was shot. Cam'ron was struck at least once while steering the car, but he was able to drive, going wrong on highways and flashing his lights until a fan drove him to Howard University Hospital. The gunman and woman jumped out of a parked vehicle and fled the scene. A cell phone was recovered from the scene of the shooting in Washington, D.C. Metro Police recovered a cellphone from the scene, which they tried to track down the criminals. He said he doesn't know who shot him, but later in the album "Gotta Love It" starring Max B. Cam'ron, the gunman yells out the Roc-A-Fella Records diamond hand signal before shots were fired, although later in the song "Gotta Love It" starring Max B. Cam'ron, he claims he heard the gunman throw up the Roc-A-Fella Records diamond hand signal before shots were fired.
