Early life
Cally-Jo was born in Southampton, the United Kingdom, on April 20th, 1989, and grew up in Shirley, London. She studied fine art painting at Winchester School of Art and graduated in 2011. Cally-Jo began tattooing in 2012.
Career
Cally-Jo was given a job at Love Hate Social Club, London, in 2012. Cally-Jo began working with tattoo artist Lal Hardy at New Wave Tattoo Studio in North London and was inspired by his work.
She worked with Lal Hardy to produce a winged vintage microphone design on limited editions of the One (M8) phone, which were given to finalists at the British MOBO music awards.
Cally-Jo went to the Dominican Republic in October 2013 to create a mehendi-style tattoo on Rihanna the singer's hand.
Cally-Jo was a participant in The 100 Hands Project, a group on view at the National Maritime Museum in Cornwall, the United Kingdom. The exhibition features 100 silicone hands tattooed by 100 tattoo artists who live in England.
Cally-Jo worked with the Coffee vs. Gangs campaign, which was created by the coffee company Kenco in 2016. Gang tattoos in Honduras are representative of a life of crime, with gang members using special tattoo designs to indicate their allegiance to specific groups. Cally-Jo was hired by the Irish artist to create an original artwork that captures tattooing's rich symbolism, but it also addresses the possibility of coffee farming as an alternative to gang life. The press followed this initiative, as well as the visit of Honduras' Ambassador.
