Blaine Cameron Johnson (born March 1990 – February 9, 2019), also known as Cadet, was a British rapper, singer, and record producer. Krept, Johnson's younger cousin embarked on a solo career as a performer in 2011, releasing a number of freestyles on YouTube channels including OSM Vision and Link Up TV.

In 2016, his debut project, The Commitment, was launched, followed by The Commitment 2 the following year.

He is perhaps best known for his single "Advice," which debuted on the UK Top 40, and Deno's No. 14 was killed in a car crash while driving to a gig in Betley, Staffordshire, on February 9, 2019.

Personal life

Johnson was the cousin of fellow rapper Krept, and the two of them spent a considerable portion of their childhood together. Johnson converted to Islam at the age of 15 and has often mentioned his faith in his music. Johnson was of Jamaican descent.

Career

Cadet first became well-known for his collaboration with Krept and Konan's Gipset crew in 2006, appearing in music videos for the group's freestyles. On April 4, 2008, Cadet's first commercial mixtape, Are You Ready, was released. Because of their freestyles on gang life and London life, the Gipset crew gained a large following on social media into the end of 2010. Following a big label contract with Krept and Konan, Gipset's career was halted in 2013, and the majority of Gipset members stayed focused on their solo careers.

Cadet began working as a solo artist in 2010. He appeared on Stormzy's single Dungeon Dragons in 2011 and then collaborated with the rapper on the single GrimeWork in 2012. Cadet's decade, including a warm up session in 2015.

In July 2015, he unveiled "Slut," his first freestyle, according to OSM Vision. As of February 2019, the song was in demand, and it had over 3.1 million views as of February 2019. Cadet was chosen by Link Up TV to appear on their Behind Barz freestyle series on August 17, 2015, attracting 2.3 million viewers as of February 2019. Complex, an American media company, praised the freestyle for being "true at its finest" and "better than any rappers' complete mixtape."

In 2016, Cadet's debut EP, The Commitment, was released. Donae'o, Konan, and Tis Rome have all contributed to the EP. It was the rapper's first commercial debut. Cadet's "Letter to Krept" was released in 2016. Cadet finds out in "Letter to Krept" that he has reached out to inform his cousin Krept of a misunderstanding between the two families. Cadet discusses their romance together, identifying the main events that lead to their separation at the time of this song's appearance. Krept later released "Letter to Cadet" to tell his side of the tale. In December 2016, Big Tobz' single "Corn" was released.

Cadet unveiled his sophomore EP, The Commitment 2, a sequel to his first album, in 2017. The EP featured guest appearances from Konan and Ghetts, as well as vocals from Shakka. He released "Southside" starring Geko and "What's Good" starring Loski in the same year.

In April 2018, he launched Closure, a part 2 of his "Slut Freestyle" film, which attracted worldwide attention. Cadet appeared on the remix of Rudimental's single Toast to Our Differences alongside Jaykae and Shungudzo, which was released on June 12, 2018. Cadet's "Advice" single starring Deno was released on August 29, 2018. It was his first charting single, debuting at number 27 on the UK Top 40 and receiving over 18 million views on YouTube as of February 2019. The song was initially a freestyle that took place in Cadet's vehicle before it was released as a single. "Pumpy," his second charting hit, was announced on October 26, 2018. Da Beatfreakz produced the single, but Swarmz and AJ & Deno contributed vocals. In December 2018, Ay Em and Tion Wayne's "rendy" was released. This will be his last single released during his lifetime.

Cadet's second Daily Duppy freestyle was revealed on GRM Daily on April 22, 2019 after consulting with his family. Cadets' single Gang Gang was also revealed posthumously on August 29, 2019. It was released by GRM Daily, revealing that black men are unfairly targeted by the police and were inspired by an incident Cadet himself was confronted by the police. The single reached its high on the UK Singles Chart at 82.

Cadet's cousin Krept revealed that Cadet's studio album The Rated Legend was in the works on March 1st, 2020. It's his debut studio album and was announced on April 10, 2020, with Krept as executive producer. It includes Cadet's platinum-certified single "Advice" and the posthumously launched "Gang Gang" as well as previously unreleased music filmed during his lifetime. Krept said he wants to "keep Cadet's name alive and safe" so that he can continue what he started and accomplished." All writers and performers contributed to the album for free, and it was later revealed that the artist and singers contributed to the project for free. It was released by Cadet's new name Underrated Legends with production information from Show N Prove and Da Beatfreakz, as well as vocal contributions from Young Adz, Krept & Konan, Swarmz, Tion Wayne, and Deno.
