Brian Edmund Posehn (born July 6, 1966) is an American actor, singer, writer, and comedian best known for his appearances as Jim Kuback on The WB's Mission Hill and Brian Spukowski on Comedy Central's The Sarah Silverman Program.

Bert Kibbler, a geologist, appeared on The Big Bang Theory as a geologist.

Early life

Posehn was born and raised in Sacramento, California. He is of German and Irish descent. In 1984, he graduated from Sonoma Valley High School. He attended Cal State University, Sacramento, where he went to college.

Personal life

Posehn married Melanie Truhett in 2004 and has a son with her. Posehn quit smoking marijuana in 2011, but rediscovered it three years later.

Posehn's career began with guest appearances and mostly small roles in television shows. He appeared on 28 episodes of Mr. Show with Bob and David (1995–1998), a HBO sketch comedy series. He handed over the manuscript in which Joey Tribbiani's soap opera "Dr. Drake Ramoray" is killed in a 1996 episode of Friends. In NewsRadio, a fan of Jimmy James at a book reading (1997) and a member of Dave's Cappella group "Chock Full o' Notes" (1998). "He was playing" gonorrhea in the Seinfeld episode "The Burning" (1998). He was encouraged to "act out" to a group of medical students how a surgeon left a sponge in him after surgery. Posehn co-authored the Space Ghost: Coast to Coast episode "Cahill" (1998) with Ben Karlin. On 29 episodes of the NBC series Just Shoot Me! (1999–2003), a tyrant. In Mission Hill on the WB (1999–2002), Jim was the voice of Jim, and Del Swanson on MTV in 3 South (2002–2003). In the 2003 episode "The Cube," he appeared on an Adult Swim program, Aqua Teen Hunger Force.

On several episodes of the Cartoon Network's Tom Goes to the Mayor (2005–2006), Posehn appeared as Gibbons, a tiny man. In an episode called "The Nerd Perspective," in which he gave a scathing review of MTV and its decreasing quality, he appeared in the 2005 pilot for The Showbiz Showbiz Show with David Spade. In several episodes of Comedy Central's Reno 911, he appeared as a mortician. He appeared on Comedy Central and Showtime in the 2005 documentary film The Comedians of Comedians of Comedy. He appeared on NBC in a 2007 episode of the improv series Thank God You're Here (2012) and was a celebrity judge on the revived 1970s game show The Gong Show with Dave Attell (2008) on Comedy Central. He co-stars on The Sarah Silverman Show as a gay couple who is friends with Silverman and who also wrote the season three finale "Wowschwitz." He appeared in Tim and Eric Awesome Show, Great Job! on Showtime, and in the second season's premier episode "Slip of the Tongue" of Californication (2008), played a physically impaired man (Scooter Man), and also wrote the episode "Fatherklok." He appeared on the first season of MTV sketch comedy series Human Giant as a writer and performer, as well as Glen Furlblam, the biggest fan of Dr. Two-Brains in the PBS Kids animated series WordGirl. He co-wrote the fourth season of Metalocalypse in 2012. Posehn portrayed Bert, a recurring character on The Big Bang Theory from 2013 to 2019.

Dumb and Dumberer, a comedy film from 2004, Are Harry Met Lloyd, Grind, Sleeping Dogs Lie, Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer, where he appeared in Glen Maverick and the 2007 animated film Surf's Up. Posehn appeared in the 2007 documentary Super High Me starring'marijuana comedian Doug Benson, the 2008 documentary Nerdcore Rising about MC Frontalot and in a supporting role in Sarah Silverman: Jesus Is Magic, as himself.

In Rob Zombie's animated In Rob Zombie's animated The Haunted World of El Superbeasto, Posehn portrays Murray, a robot. In the English dub of Pom Poko, he also voiced Hayashi.

Posehn appeared on Comedy Central Presents in 2002 and then in 2005's The Comedians of Comedy, a documentary/live special chronicling a 2004 small-club comedy tour he attended. The film was followed by a television series on Comedy Central of the same name. Live In: Posehn's debut comedy album Live In: Nerd Rage was released in 2006. Louis C.K., Janeane Garofalo, and Zach Galifianakis were among the comedy lineup of the 2008 Bonnaroo Music and Arts Festival's comedians. Posehn appeared on Jim Norton and Michelle Buteau's set of Rock N' Roll Comedy. He referred to his Wikipedia article, which he reportedly vandalized, during his 2008 appearance on Comedy Central Presents. Posehn's second album Fart and Wiener Jokes debuted in 2010. Posehn promised to appear at the Gathering of the Juggalos in 2011. This decision was condemned as "not metal" by several of his followers. Posehn replied that "getting a paycheck is gold," and he expressed admiration for the Juggalo fan culture, as well as Insane Clown Posse and Psychopathic Records' success. Posehn's third comedy album and first DVD, The Fartist, was released in 2013, and Posehn's fourth comedy collection, Posehn 25x2, debuted in 2013.

Live In: Nerd Rage, Relapse Records' first album, was released in 2006. It features "Metal by Numbers," a song mocking the formulaic nature of modern "metal" at the time of its release. The instrumental tracks feature musicians such as guitarist Scott Ian (of Anthrax), bassist Joey Vera (the theanthrax's son, but also of Armored Saint and Fates Warning), drummer John Tempesta (of Shadows Falls), and lead guitarist Jonathan Donais (of Shadows Fall). Posehn appeared in the Anthrax music videos for "What Doesn't Die" and "Blood Eagle Wings," as well as "Blood Eagle Wings." On the 2010 Revolving Golden Gods Awards, Posehn appeared on a Season 4 episode of That Metal Show and Lamb of God's Walk With Me In Hell DVD and performed "More Metal Then You," a song included on his non-musical stand-up comedy compilation "Brian Posehn's All-Star Band" with "Brian Posehn's All-Star Band." Posehn appeared in "We've Got A Situation Here" on The Damned Things music video. Evile's Teeth received vocal support from him.

Posehn's first metal-only album, Grandpa Metal, featured guest appearances from Brendon Small of Dethklok, Scott Ian, Corey Taylor of Slipknot and Stone Sour, Weird Al Yankovic, Michael Starr of Steel Panther, and others. The album features comedies metal songs as well as metal covers of A-Ha and "The Fox" ("What Does the Fox Say"). Ylvis, a playwright from Ylvis, Ylvis.

As co-narrator Brian of The Hunter and Star Warped, Posehn has provided voice work for video games Brütal Legend. In the 2004 video game Halo 2, Posehn has also voiced Grunts and other Marines.

In a commercial campaign starring the "Easy Button," Posehn appeared in the commercial "Ink Fairy" for the Staples office supply store.

Posehn co-wrote the comic book The Last Christmas with writer Gerry Duggan, which was released by Image Comics in 2006 (ISBN 1582406766).

Posehn hosted the first American "Golden Gods Awards" for metal music hosted by Revolver Magazine in April 2009.

Posehn and Gerry Duggan co-wrote the Deadpool continuing comic book series, which ran in November 2012 and has since appeared in 45 issues. In April 2015, his reign came to an end. Tony Moore illustrated the first six issues.

Posehn has been hosting Nerd Poker, where a group of comedians perform Dungeons & Dragons. Gerry Duggan, a comic book writer, and comedian Blaine Capatch are among the co-hosts.

Posehn has also worked with Dungeons & Dragons: Grey is a cartoon based on the film "Lost City of Omu," hosted by Matthew Mercer.
