Career
Brian started his music under the name Rich Chigga and debuted his debut album titled "Life the Dream" on his YouTube page on July 17, 2015. DJ Smokey produced the album. Brian went on to record his debut single "Dat $tick" on March 11, 2016. He had been signed by 88rising a few months after. Since the 88rising was released a reaction video starring American rappers Ghostface Killah, 21 Savage, Tory Lanez, MadeinTYO, Desiigner, and many others, "dat $tick" reached international success. Since the official music video for the track was posted on his YouTube channel, it has been watched over 200 million times. "Dat" went on to reach the top of the Bubbling Under R&B/Hip-Hop Singles chart.
Brian went on to announce his second single, "Who Let Be," on iTunes on August 9, 2016. Sihk produced the song. He then released a remix of his debut single "Dat $tick" which features rappers Ghostface Killah and Pouya. On both YouTube and SoundCloud, Brian later released his third single "Seventeen," which quickly passed the one million hits mark.
On April 19, 2017, Brian released his fourth single "Back To It". He began his first US tour in April 2017 in April and May. Brian released the single "Gospel" with XXTentacion and Keith Ape in May 2017. This was XXXTentacion's first collaboration with Brian, and the album has since gone viral with over 38 million views on YouTube.
In May 2017, Brian received an award at the 4th Indonesian Choice Awards as Best Breakthrough Artist of the Year. In an interview with XXL, Brian said, "I'm working on a debut project and there are some serious songs and some comedic stuff, but the serious songs are my concern." Brian said in a talk, he was spending the majority of his time in Los Angeles, California, on his debut album.
Brian unveiled "Glow Like Dat" on August 15, 2017, according to 88rising's YouTube channel. He then announced a national tour, starting on September 9th and concluding on November 21. In October and November 2017, Brian introduced the singles "Chaos" and "Crisis" starring 21 Savage. Brian announced on December 19th that titled Amen was his debut studio album, according to Twitter. With the debut of "See Me" on January 1, Brian officially changed his stage name from "Rich Chigga" to "Brian." He changed his stage name to "Rich Brian" six days later. He appeared on 88rising's compilation album, Head in the Clouds, and launched two singles, "Midsummer Madness" featuring Joji, High Brothers, Kyle Chan, 8 August, and "History," which were released on 7 June and 18 July respectively. Brian announced his second studio album titled The Sailor on June 26, 2019, which starred artist and producer Bekon. On July 17, 2019, he debuted his second single from the album "Kids." The Sailor was announced on July 26, 2019 with guest appearances from RZA and Joji.
Brian's EP titled 1999 was released on August 25, 2020. The seven-track EP was preceded by three singles with accompanying music videos: "Don't Care," "Love in my Pocket," and "DOA."
