Brian George Life

Brian George (born 1 July 1952) is an Israeli-English actor, voice artist, comedian, and singer best known for his portrayal of Pakistani restaurateur Babu Bhatt on Seinfeld and Raj Koothrappali's father on The Big Bang Theory.

Early life

George was born in Jerusalem on July 1st, 1952, to Jewish parents of Baghdadi (Iraqi Jewish) descent who had immigrated to Israel. His father was born in Lebanon and grew up in Bombay. His mother was from India and has traces of Indian origins. The family moved from Israel to London and then, in 1966, to Toronto, Ontario, Canada, a year after his birth. George is the youngest of four siblings.

He attended an all-boys school in London but made the switch to a publicly funded co-ed high school when the family relocated to Toronto. He studied at the University of Toronto, where he was active in theatre productions. He left before graduation and formed a theater company. As it didn't succeed, Jack started his life in Second City, where he worked with John Candy and others.

In the Star Trek: Deep Space Nine episode "Doctor Bashir, I Presume," George Bashir's father appeared as a United Nations Secretary in Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery. "In The Big Bang Theory, Raj's father appears in The Big Bang Theory on a regular basis." In 2006, he revived his role as Sasan's father, Omid, in So NoTORious. In the last two series of Bob and Margaret, he also appeared in Bob Fish.

He appeared on many other sitcoms, including three episodes of Seinfeld as Pakistani immigrant Babu Bhatt, who is deported to Pakistan if Elaine Benes is unable to deliver Jerry Seinfeld's letter, which includes Babu's visa application, in time. In the series's finale, George returned. He appeared in two episodes of Ellen as Ranjit, a member of the book club that gathers in Ellen's book store.
