Life and career
Gray was born and raised in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He appeared in his first school play at the age of 6, and when he was 7 years old, he appeared in his first professional show at the Academy of Music.
Gray attended The Philadelphia High School for Performing Arts as a Theater major, graduating in 2014.
Gray was given the role of Jamal on On My Block (2018–2021). It's his first lead role. Since he saw himself in Jamal, he was attracted to the role. In an interview with The Fader, he said that he also wanted to expand his physical comedy knowledge, a subject he had no expertise with previously. Gray appeared in When They See Us, a Netflix limited series, in which they appeared briefly.
