Brent Leroy, the actor who created the CTV sitcom Corner Gas, is best known for his role as the protagonist.

Early life and education
Butt attended Tisdale Unit Composite School from August 3, 1966, in Tisdale, Saskatchewan. Butt briefly attended Sheridan College in Ontario before returning to his home in Saskatchewan.

Butt is married to his co-star Nancy Robertson of Corner Gas and Hiccups. Since 2005, the two couples have been married.
Career
Butt and a friend formed Windwolf Graphics, a publishing company while still working as a drywaller. Existing Earth, his comedy, was nominated for an Eagle Award. They had two issues before running out of funds.
Butt performed stand-up comedy at an amateur night at a Saskatoon comedy club in February 1988. He appeared in the Yuk Yuk's chain in Western Canada before deciding to Toronto in 1989, where he spent in a Cabbagetown apartment with two other comedians and performing at Yuk Yuk Yuk's.
Butt performed stand-up performances for CTV, CBC Television's Definitely Not the Opera, CBC Radio's Definitely Not the Opera, and The Comedy Network in Canada, as well as A&E in the United States and the Special Broadcasting Service in Australia. He wrote "Nothing Rhymes with Saskatchewan" and "Hairy Legs," among other prairie-oriented funny and/or "folksy" songs.
Butt co-created the CTV television series Corner Gas, which was set in his home province of Saskatchewan in 2003, with his production firm Prairie Pants.He starred in the show from 2004 to 2009
Butt hosted a Royal Command Performance gala for Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, on May 19, 2005, in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, to mark the Canadian province's centennial. He performed his album "Nothing Rhymes with Saskatchewan" and traded quips with Leslie Nielsen. He also hosted the Juno Awards that year.
