Brent Butt (born August 3, 1966) is a Canadian actor, comedian, and writer.

Brent Leroy, the actor who created the CTV sitcom Corner Gas, is best known for his role as the protagonist.

Hiccups was also created and directed No Clue, a 2013 film.

Early life and education

Butt attended Tisdale Unit Composite School from August 3, 1966, in Tisdale, Saskatchewan. Butt briefly attended Sheridan College in Ontario before returning to his home in Saskatchewan.

Personal life

Butt is married to his co-star Nancy Robertson of Corner Gas and Hiccups. Since 2005, the two couples have been married.

Career

Butt and a friend formed Windwolf Graphics, a publishing company while still working as a drywaller. Existing Earth, his comedy, was nominated for an Eagle Award. They had two issues before running out of funds.

Butt performed stand-up comedy at an amateur night at a Saskatoon comedy club in February 1988. He appeared in the Yuk Yuk's chain in Western Canada before deciding to Toronto in 1989, where he spent in a Cabbagetown apartment with two other comedians and performing at Yuk Yuk Yuk's.

Butt performed stand-up performances for CTV, CBC Television's Definitely Not the Opera, CBC Radio's Definitely Not the Opera, and The Comedy Network in Canada, as well as A&E in the United States and the Special Broadcasting Service in Australia. He wrote "Nothing Rhymes with Saskatchewan" and "Hairy Legs," among other prairie-oriented funny and/or "folksy" songs.

Butt co-created the CTV television series Corner Gas, which was set in his home province of Saskatchewan in 2003, with his production firm Prairie Pants.

He starred in the show from 2004 to 2009

Butt hosted a Royal Command Performance gala for Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, on May 19, 2005, in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, to mark the Canadian province's centennial. He performed his album "Nothing Rhymes with Saskatchewan" and traded quips with Leslie Nielsen. He also hosted the Juno Awards that year.

Butt and the Prairie Pants made the decision to end Corner Gas after its sixth season, which aired during the 2008–2009 season.

Butt was given the Comedy Network Sir Peter Ustinov Award at the World Television Festival in Banff, Alberta, which is given in honour of a significant body of comedic work. John Cleese, Bob Newhart, John Candy, John Candy, and Eugene Levy have all been recipients.

From 2010 to 2011, Butt wrote and produced a comedy series called Hiccups for CTV. Nancy Robertson appeared in the series as Millie Upton, a children's author who hires a life coach to help her with her anger management issues.

The Brent Butt Comedy Special on July 25, 2010, Butt's one-hour comedy special was called The Brent Butt Comedy Special. On The Comedy Network, it was broadcast. Seth Rogen, Dave Foley, and Jully Black were among the guest stars on this episode.

Butt co-wrote and co-executive produced Corner Gas: The Movie, a 2014 film that was released in theatres and on television, as well as on CTV in December. Brent LeRoy's role was also reprised. Several Canadian television stars, as well as Academy Award nominee Graham Greene and Will Sasso appeared in the film.

Corner Gas Animated, Brent's sequel, premiered on The Comedy Network in April 2018.
