Bradford Cox Life

Bradford James Cox (born May 15, 1982) is an American singer-songwriter and guitarist best known as the lead singer and guitarist of the indie rock band Deerhunter.

Atlas Sound, the moniker of Atlas Sound, also pursues a solo career. In 2001, Cox formed Deerhunter with drummer Moses Archuleta.

The band has released 7 studio albums as well as several singles and EPs.

Cox has used Atlas Sound since he was ten to refer to his own music, but his first full-length film under the name was called Let the Blind Lead Those Who Can See But Cannot Feel (2008).

Cox's method of creating music is stream-of-consciousness, and he does not write lyrics in advance. In 2013, Dallas Buyers Club, he made his film debut.

Personal life

Cox was born with the Marfan syndrome. He dropped out of high school (although later earned a GED) and his parents divorced, leaving him "to live in my childhood home alone." I literally lived in this huge suburban house by myself." Cox's change in music taste is as a result of his personal and mental health. Cox's illness began to affect his body in new ways around ten years old; this is the time when he "looked awkward" at first. Cox, who had no friends, became interested in how music could sound "heartbreaking, nostalgic, or melancholy"; he identified with the film Edward Scissorhands' title character and, in particular, enjoyed the soundtrack, which was created by Danny Elfman. With Announcements, Cox's tastes transitioned to music that was more "monotonous or hypnotic," such as the Stereolab album Transient Random Bursts. Around twenty years old, his life circumstances came about "a period" during which he became "only interested in this particular sort of suburban psychedelic pastoral thing." It was escapism. I didn't want as much emotional manipulation as I did. It's about the opposite of Edward Scissorhands.

Although Cox has described himself as gay, he has also stated that he practices a non-sexual/asexual lifestyle. However, in a 2011 interview with Rolling Stone, Cox said that he no longer identified as asexual but rather as queer: "I'm sure I'm queer," he said. I don't have a high self-confidence, so asexuality is sort of like a comfort zone where you can't be rejected." "There are so many types of sexuality out there, but one that is skipped is asexual," Cox said in a radio interview on October 19, 2016. I am completely asexual. At 34 years old, I am a virgin.' In a 2019 tweet, Cox was also listed as non-binary.

After being struck by a vehicle in December 2014, Cox was hospitalized.

Bradford Cox Career

Music career

In early 2001, Cox formed Deerhunter with bassist Paul Harper and drummer Dan Walton (who called the group the band). After Cox encountered Moses Archuleta, a teen transient who was sleeping on the floor of Cox's friends, the group grew. Archuleta was an Ace Tone Organ and electronics player at the time. The band's first shows were experimental and based on improvisation. Cox continued recording marginally more structured material and releasing it on CD-R and cassette with the name Atlas Sound. Paul Harper was moved to Ohio and was replaced by Justin Bosworth. Colin Mee was also on guitar at this point. Dan Walton left and Cox suggested that Archuleta go to drums. The band's live shows and recordings became more popular. They appeared in Die Slaughterhaus for the seventh time. After Bosworth died in a bizarre skateboarding crash in 2004, Josh Fauver joined the band in 2004. Deerhunter's debut album on Atlanta's Stickfigure Records was included in this set. Lockett Pundt, a boy he befriended at Harrison High School in Kennesaw, Georgia, should play guitar so he could concentrate on vocals and electronics, according to Cox. Until 2010, Halcyon Digest's 2007's Cryptograms set a new high, according to this lineup. Colin Mee left the band after failing to turn up for a North American tour. Josh Fauver left the band and was replaced by Josh McKay. The band now consists of Cox on guitar and vocals, Pundt on guitar and occasional vocals, McKay on bass, and Archuleta on drums.

Atlas Sound is Cox's musical solo project, although he has used the name to identify his music since he was a child. He had access to two tape decks, which he used to layer guitar and drum sounds, as well as his own voice. "Some of it is clearly, frighteningly bad, but other times I'm like, 'Wow, it's cool,' he says. That's actually how some Deerhunter songs happened. 'Spring Hall Convert' [from Cryptograms] was like that. That was a tape I made in the ninth or tenth grade. Cox writes about his music stream-of-consciousness, not writing lyrics in advance, and constructing songs by adding more parts until he says, "it's getting crowded." The name of his project is derived from Atlas Sound, the tape player he used.

In the aftermath of his Deerhunter days, Cox formed Atlas Sound because "I have fears that I will not be able to play with a five piece rock band." "I have this palette of sounds that I don't necessarily have with Deerhunter." Cox does not want to be the company's principal songwriter because the music Deerhunter produces is a collaborative effort. "I may have an idea for a portion of a song, but I want to keep it skeletal so the guys can fill it out." "All is done in an hour" with Atlas Sound, whereas with Atlas Sound. Cox created the music for his first album on Ableton Live, a combination of computer-based consoles and his own live recordings.

There have been four major launches by Cox since Mayfair: Let the Blind Lead (2008), Logos (2009), a four-album set of previously unreleased songs titled Bedroom Databank (2010), and finally Parallax in 2011. Let the Blind Lead lyrics are autobiographical in nature, resembling Cox's life experiences. Cox characterized his first album as a "bedroom laptop thing" and "very introverted." Logos, on the other hand, were published in various regions of the world, and it is "not about me." Other musicians have performed collaborations. The lyrics are not autobiographical. The view is a lot more expansive and less close up. "I became bored with reflection." Logos, an unfinished version of the Logos, leaked on the internet in August 2008, more than a year before its unveiling date. Cox nearly stopped manufacturing on the record, but later said, "I didn't react well to the leak in retrospect." It became a web-fueled drama that I was quickly learning to despise."

Cox's "Bedroom Databank" blog on his website in late 2010, and he published four volumes of demos. These demos were taken down from Mediafire by Sony, but Cox later apologised to Cox, saying that the documents were "incorrectly deleted." Animal Collective selected Atlas Sound to perform at the All Tomorrow's Parties festival, which they curated in May 2011.

Cox has performed in various bands, including the short-lived "Wet Dreams," an all-girl garage/noise band in which he played drums. He also performed on several tracks on the Black Lips' second album We Did Not Know the Forest Spirit Made the Flowers Grow, including playing drums on the song "Notown Blues" from that album.

Cole Alexander of Black Lips, Frankie Broyles, and Asha Lakra are also members of the "Avant-Garage" band Ghetto Cross.

Cox appeared in Where the Wild Things Are, the Karen O-scored soundtrack for the 2009 film Where the Wild Things Are.

In November 2012, Cox would co-star Matthew McConaughey and Jennifer Garner in Cox's debut film, Dallas Buyers Club.
