Early life

Dourif was born in Huntington, West Virginia, on March 18, 1950, to Joan Mavis Felton, an actor, and Jean Henri Dourif, an art collector who owned and operated a dye shop.

His paternal grandparents immigrated from France and his paternal grandfather co-founded the Standard Ultramarine and Color Company in Huntington. William C. Campbell, a retired champion golfer who helped raise Dourif and his five children (four sisters and one brother), died after Dourif's father died in 1953. Dourif attended the private Aiken Preparatory School in Aiken, South Carolina, from 1963 to 1965. He pursued his passions in art and acting here. Although he briefly considered becoming a flower arranger, he was soon inspired to become an actor by his mother's presence as an actor in a community theater called Give Me Shelter.

He attended Fountain Valley School in Colorado Springs, Colorado, graduating in 1968. Aiken was a man who went to Aiken. Dourif appeared as an outsider at the Fountain Valley Film Festival in 1969, taking second place in the 8 mm film category with his 10-minute entry "Blind Date." Dourif attended Marshall University for a time before deciding against college and moving to New York City to study acting on Constance Ferrell's advice.

Brad Dourif Career

Career

Dourif began in school productions and then moved to community theater, joining the Huntington Community Players while attending Marshall University. He studied with Sanford Meisner and spent time at the Circle Repertory Company in New York City, and he worked with Marshall Mason and Lanford Wilson. Dourif appeared in a number of plays, including The Ghost Sonata, Spite of Himself, and Red Ryder, in which he was introduced by director Milo Forman (1975).

Dourif decided to appear alongside Amanda Plummer in the Off-Broadway revival of Tennessee Williams' The Two-Character Play, which received critical acclaim at the New World Stages in 2013. In a video interview with the producers, he explained why he dropped out of acting in live theater: "I hated the stage, did not want to do it." And then someone asked, 'Will you do a play?' Amanda Plummer has arrived, and I'm like, 'Oh shit!' No. "I'm going to have to do this,'" says the narrator. It opened on June 10, 2013, and then closed on September 29, 2013. Several performance cancellations had been postponed, one relating to Dourif's absence due to a death in the family. Despite the presence of an understudy, Plummer refused to perform without Dourif.

Despite the fact that One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest is often credited as Dourif's debut film, his first appearance on screen was in the low-budget film Split, which never was released. He continued to appear in W.W. and the Dixie Dancers (1975), but his bit part was cut from the final cut of the film. Billy Bibbit's portrayal in Cuckoo's Nest received him a Golden Globe Award (Best Actor Debut) and a British Academy Award (Supporting Actor), as well as a nomination for Best Supporting Actor (FAB).

Dourif was one of 12 actors to watch in 1981, according to Vincent Canby, who named him "one of the most complex, most dynamic young film actors of his generation." When Dourif moved to Hollywood, he continued in theater and taught acting and directing classes at Columbia University until 1988 (Don Mancini and Yves Lavandier were among his students).

Dourif has performed eccentric or troubling characters, beginning with Cuckoo's Nest (1981) and Eyes of Laura Mars (1984), Dourif's (1985) and Blue Velvet (1986).

Dourif has appeared in a number of horror films, most notably as the voice of Chucky in the Child's Play franchise. In The Exorcist III (1990) and Alien Resurrection (1997), he portrayed Gemini Killer and appeared in Death Machine (1994) and Alien Resurrection (1997). He later appeared in Rob Zombie's Halloween (2007) and Halloween II (2009). Chucky appeared in the sixth installment of the Child's Play franchise, Curse of Chucky, and then again in the 2017 sequel, Cult of Chucky. Fiona Dourif, his son, appeared in both films.

Luther Lee Boggs, a psychic serial killer, appeared on "Beyond the Sea" in 1994 as the X-Files' "Beyond the Sea" as the psychic serial killer. In a three-ep story arc on Star Trek, he also portrayed Lon Suder: visions in Babylon 5 phantified the narrator. Dourif earned acclaim as Doc Cochran in Deadwood in 2004, winning an Emmy Award for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series.

He appeared in the Agents of S.H.I.L.D. in 2011 and in 2011 as a guest star in the third season finale of Fringe. "The End of the Beginning" is the episode that begins.

Dourif contributed spoken word vocals to three songs on the Norwegian duo Thinguma*jigSaw's album Misery Together in 2012. Dourif appears in Toto's "Stranger in Town" (1984) and "Drinking from the Bottle" (2012) by Calvin Harris.
