Bobby Deol Career

Acting career

In Dharam Veer (1977), Deol appeared briefly as a child actor for a short time. In Barsaat (1995), directed by Rajkumar Santoshi, Deol made his adult debut in Bollywood with Twinkle Khanna. In the midst of falling in love, Deol portrays Badal, a naive, resourceful young man who goes from a small village to a big city and becomes involved with corrupt police and criminal cartels. Deol suffered his leg in an equestrian crash while filming, and he had to be flown to London to recuperate and had to cancel several publicity shoots that documented his debut. The film was a modest success at the box office, winning him the Filmfare Award for Best Male Debut.

Deol appeared in Gupt: The Unknown Truth, a suspense thriller starring Rajiv Rai, who is widely considered his first film role. Deol, a young man accused of murdering his stepfather after a failed engagement bid and wrongfully arrested, appeared alongside Manisha Koirala, Kajol, Paresh Rawal, Om Puri, and Raj Babbar. He flees and tracks down the true killer. The Hidden Truth was highly praised for its storyline and soundtrack, and it was also a commercial hit. Deol appeared in Aur Pyaar Ho Gaya with Aishwarya Rai in her debut Bollywood role in the same year. The film did not do well at the box office, despite being a success at the box office.

In 1998, Deol starred opposite Neha in the Vidhu Vinod Chopra film, Kareeb. With a love of petty thievery and deceit, Deol portrayed Birju, an irresponsible young man from an upper-middle-class family in Himachal Pradesh. He appeared in Abbas Mustan's military thriller Soldier in 1998, alongside Raakhee and Preity Zinta. Deol played Vicky, the unidentified character who was later discovered as Raju, the son of Vijay Malhotra who was found guilty of arms smuggling. Soldier was a huge commercial hit and was a huge success.

Deol appeared in Dillagi, directed by and co-starring his brother Sunny Deol in 1999. Sunny Deol directed a film for the first time and also the first time he appeared alongside Bobby Deol. This pairing was repeated in 23rd March 1931: Shaheed (2002), Apne (2007), and Yamla Pagla Deewana (2011) among others. Dillagi portrays Ranvir and Rajvir as brothers fighting for Shalini's affection (Urmila Matondkar).

Deol appeared in the action drama Badal alongside Rani Mukerji under Raj Kanwar's direction. The film was shot in 1984, when riots engulfed Punjab and Delhi. Deol portrays Badal, a boy who witnessed the assassination of his family and neighbors by the unbridled Police Inspector Jai Singh Rana (Ashutosh Rana), and he quickly becomes a feared terrorist, fuelled by the government's indignation and resentment of him and his families and relatives. The film is based on The Devil's Own (1997), starring Brad Pitt and Harrison Ford. Badal's commercial success made it a success. Following this, he appeared in Hum To Mohabbat Karega (2000) and reunited with Rani Mukerji in Bichhoo (2000), a dramatic remake of Luc Besson's 1994 film Leon starring Jean Reno and Natalie Portman. In Bichhoo, Deol portrays Jeeva, a young man from a struggling middle-class family who has the misfortune of falling in love with the wealthy Kiran. (Malaika Arora) Jeeva's mother and two sisters are arrested for prostitution in public, and eventually the three children die by themselves. Jeeva becomes a professional killer who later seeks revenge against Kiran's father and his henchmen. The entire Bali family is killed, including his neighbor Kiran Bali (Mukerji). Jeeva has decided to assist Kiran in seeking revenge against the man who murdered her family. The film and Deol's success were panned by critics, with Sakanya Verna of Rediff.com naming the film as "one of the year's most painful" and adding, "Deol's performance is quite well, robotic." He clings to a brooding word right through the film. "Why doesn't someone insist he attends an acting school?"

Deol appeared in Indra Kumar's Aashiq in 2001 (although it was shot in 2000). Following this, he appeared in Abbas-Mustan's thriller, Ajnabee, alongside Kareena Kapoor, Akshay Kumar, and Bipasha Basu. Bobby, the new husband of Priya Malhotra (Kapoor) who after heading to Switzerland and quickly befriending their neighbors (Kumar and Basu), is immersed in a web of deceit and extramarital affairs, according to the film, which was based on the 1992 American thriller Consenting Adults. Deol's performance stunned everyone, who remarked that he "only ever manages to communicate fear of the fugitive."

Deol appeared alongside his brother Sunny in the historical drama 23rd March 1931: Shaheed. It was set in British India and depicts the events leading up to the death of Indian freedom fighter Bhagat Singh and his companions Rajguru and Sukhdev on March 23, 1931. Bobby Deol plays Bhagat Singh and Sunny Deol as the next generation in Chandra Shekhar Azad. Critics gave the film mixed marks. Rediff.com said the film had many good scenes and some bad ones, and that the film was superior to that of Bhagat Singh's original, but that the agony of the war was overplayed, undermining the brutality and anguish in the true story. Though Deol was lauded for certain scenes, Ajay Devgan remarked that "In terms of appearance, Devgan is clearly the champion," the writer claims, with a more convincing script and a more convincing producer. Devgan, who reportedly shed weight to appear in the role, is now one of India's best actors, eager to try out different roles. Deol does his best, but it's impossible to shout and act simultaneously."

Deol was nominated for the Best Actor Award in Abbas-Mustan's romantic thriller Humraaz later in 2002. The film is based on Alfred Hitchcock's Dial M For Murder (1954) (remade in 1998 as A Perfect Murder) and stars Deol and Akshaye Khanna in a love triangle. Critics loved the film, with Chitra Mahesh of The Hindu saying, "Bobby Deol spends the entire first half looking moony eyed and spaced out," the actor leads to a good showing near the end." Chor Machaaye Shor, David Dhawan's last film of 2002, was an interview with Paresh Rawal, Shilpa Shetty, Bipasha Basu, and Om Puri. He played Shyam, a small-time crook who has his hands on some diamonds worth millions of dollars.

In 2003, Deol took a break from acting and returned to film in Kismat opposite Priyanka Chopra. Deol starred alongside Lara Dutta and Rahul Dev in Bardaasht, a drama based on Vikram Bhatt's screenplay. The film explores issues of police brutality, mistrust, and justice. Deol played another army officer, a Lieutenant Commander in Anil Sharma's Ab Tumhare Watan Saathiyo as Kunaljit Singh/Vikramjeet Singh. Despite the hype and high-budget, the film, which starred an ensemble cast including Amitabh Bachchan and Akshay Kumar, was deol's highest-profile film to date, but it failed to be a commercial disappointment. However, he was praised for his work, which gave him more of a following in the Punjabi crowd, and sparked comments that he looks better in a turban.

Deol appeared in Vikram Bhatt's thriller Jurm as the wealthy businessman Avinash Malhotra, who suspects his wife Sanjana (Lara Dutta) of having an affair with Rohit (Milind Soman). A number of commentators lauded Deol's achievements, with Vivek Fernandes of Rediff.com remarking, "Bobby Deol, Bhatt's schoolmate, does his alma mater proud for his controlled success." His candour has a sense of maturity, which is good news." Deol appeared in Mani Shankar's war film Tango Charlie as an Indian trooper fighting Bodo rebels in Upper Assam's northeast Indian province fighting Bodo militants. He followed his passion by appearing in Suneel Darshan's romantic film Barsaat as the vibrant young Indian Arav, who, in living in the United States, becomes involved in a love triangle with Priyanka Chopra and Bipasha Basu. "With Ziya Us Salaam of The Hindu saying, a devoted wife with her kerva te thali, a joint family, songs, and celebrations... there was no shortage of rejuvenation in this film. "The girls are ready with their curls and curves, the guy just seems lost," Deol's performance, making you wonder if he has changed even an inch as an actor after he made his debut in Rajkumar Santoshi's film of the same name." In 2005, Karan was in Dosti: Friends Forever, opposite Akshay Kumar, Lara Dutta, Kareena Kapoor, and Juhi Chawla. He plays a rich businessman once more, but he's down on his finances and romancing women. Despite being below average in India, the film, which was a big success in the United Kingdom, where it became the country's highest grosser of Bollywood in 2005, grossing around £888,000.

Deol appeared in the romantic film Humko Tumse Pyaar Hai in 2006. Deol played Raj, a beautiful blind woman with a talent for shaping pottery but she faces Rohit (Arjun Rampal). The match between Deol and Patel was highly anticipated, and it had been described as the "Bollywood equivalent of Hugh Grant and Renée Zellweger." Despite mixed critiques, a number of commentators praised Deol's performance as Raj, with Taran Adarsh saying, "Bobby Deol is just getting better as an actor." In a film that belongs to Patel and Rampal primarily," he does manage to have an effect. He made a brief appearance in Alag in the song Sabse Alag later this year.

Deol appeared in 6 films in 2007. The first of them, Shakalaka Boom Boom Boom, was shot in South Africa and is based on cultural influences and the role of the music industry, addressing themes of envy, jealousy, insecurity, obsession, manipulation, and terror. Critics generally praised Deol's film, particularly for its choreography, and Celina Jaitly, but Deol received some good feedback. After watching the film, Taran Adarsh of IndiaFM.com said, "Both Bobby and Upen get fabulous roles, and the two actors do the majority of it." Bobby is one of the most underrated actors on film. His work has been consistent throughout his career, but one tends to ignore this talented actor's capabilities all the time. Watch him go negative in Shakalaka Boom Boom, and you'd agree that he is one of the best in the industry today. His elution in the end is moving."

Jhoom Barabar Jhoom, the actor who played a gypsy in London), Preity Zinta, and Lara Dutta were among Deol's second film of the year. The film was directed by Shaad Ali and Yash Chopra under the Yash Raj Films banner. The film attracted mixed reviews, and critics generally dismissed it as a "shallow screenplay." "The film is all gloss, no substance," Taran Adarsh of IndiaFM.com said of it. He also felt that Deol was overshadowed by his co-stars, who remark that the film "belongs to Abhishek first and Preity next." Deol returned to Apne for the boxing drama. The film was a family affair, starring Deol and his brother (Sunny Deol) as the champion boxers, but the two men were disgraced former boxers who worked Deol and his brother (Sunny Deol) as the family's champion boxers but instead of doing so, a division was created within the family.

Deol appeared in Naqaab, Abbas-Mustan's second film starring him alongside Akshaye Khanna and Urvashi Sharma as another millionaire trapped in a love triangle. Deol's success has received mixed feedback. For instance, Raja Sen.com praised several scenes, "Bobby" plays a large meaty role, and there are a few scenes in which his character is truly works the audience," but "sensitive to an annoying hilt" is referred to. This film was followed by brief appearances as himself in Om Shanti Om and Nanhe Jaisalmer.

Kabeer Kaushik, the film's director, had intended for Deol to star in his debut film Sehar, but Deol declined because he was not ready to work with a debutant director at the time. Deol appeared in Heroes as both an army soldier and Dhananjay "DJ" Shergill, as well as a large cast including Salman Khan, Preity Zinta, Sunny Deol, and Mithun Chakraborty. Despite being scheduled to be published on June 6, 2008, it was postponed to October 24th, 2008, the holiday Diwali's opening weekend. Much of the filming took place in northern India, including Ladakh (especially Pangong Tso), Chandigarh, Punjab, and Delhi. Deol's last role in 2008 was in the film Dostana as Abhimanyu Singh, a supporting role to the film's main stars Abhishek Bachchan, John Abraham, and Priyanka Chopra under the Dharma Productions banner. The film explores the lives of two men who pretend to be gay but who eventually fall in love with the same girl, their roommate.
