Bobby Pickett Career

Career

Pickett co-wrote "Monster Mash" with Leonard Capizzi in May 1962. The song was a recreation of popular dance crazes of the time, including the Twist and the Mashed Potato, which spawned the term. Pickett's impersonations of veteran horror actress Boris Karloff and Bela Lugosi were included in the song (the latter with the phrase "Whatever happened to my Transylvania Twist?" Any major record label rejected the song, but Gary S. Paxton decided to produce and engineer it after learning about it; among the musicians on it were pianist Leon Russell and Mel Taylor, who appeared on it. The single, which appeared on Paxton's Garpax Records, became a million-selling single on Billboard's Hot 100 chart for two weeks before Halloween in 1962. "Bobby (Boris) Pickett and the Crypt-Kickers" were featured in the film. In August 1970, the track made its way back to the top of the US charts twice, first in August 1970, and then in May 1973, when it reached the number 10 position. The tune didn't make it to the United Kingdom until October 1973, peaking at number three in the UK Singles Chart. The record reached over 500,000 copies for the second time. On radio and iTunes, the song remains a Halloween staple. "Monster's Holiday" was a Christmas-themed sequel to "Monster's Holiday" (with "Monster Motion" on the B side), and it debuted in 1962 and ranked number 30 in December that year. The B side of "Me and My Mummy" did not chart, but "Blood Bank Blues" did not chart. The album The Original Monster Mash, as well as "Werewolf Watusi" and "The Monster Swim," the latter of which made it to No. 1 on the charts. On the Bubbling Under chart, 135 was credited under the title "Bobby Pickett and The Rolling Bones." Pickett recalled "Me and My Mummy" for a Metromedia 45 in 1973 (it did not chart). In June 1963, Pickett's "Graduation Day" was number 80. Pickett released "Monster Rap" in 1985, describing the mad scientist's annoyance over being unable to teach the dancing monster from "Monster Mash" how to talk. When he teaches the monster to rap, the problem is solved.

Pickett produced "Star Drek," a spoof on Star Trek starring Peter Ferrara in 1975, while others on Dr. Demento's radio show for many years. He also appeared in "King Kong (Your Song)" in 1976, spoofing the film by the same name that was released that year.

Pickett taught the creature how to talk in rap in the early 1980s, in the early 1980s a musical "sequel" to "Monster Mash" was released.

Pickett wrote and performed "It's Alive," another "Mash" sequel of sorts. It didn't chart, but it was played on occasion at the Demento show.

Pickett sang of two Flash cartoons, "Monster Slash" and "Climate Mash," both of which featured new iterations of his hit single in 2004 and 2005. The cartoons expressed indignation against the United States government's involvement in deforestation and global warming.

"Set Fire to the Rain" by Kelly Clarkson, which includes turning her soul into a cover of Adele's "Set Fire to the Rain."

Covering an Adele song is no mean feat, but Kelly Clarkson is always up for the challenge. The host performed Adele's 2011 hit "Set Fire to the Rain" on her show's 7 Feb. edition, a timely selection considering the pop star's recent Grammy win. Clarkson brought her own flair to the stage, weaving a few unexpected high notes into the chorus and giving the performance her best from start to finish, with backup instrumentals provided by My Band Y'all. Clarkson is extremely proficient in Adele's body of work. Since launching "The Kelly Clarkson Show" in 2019, she has covered both "Rumour Has It" and "Rolling in the Deep" for her beloved "Kellyoke" segment, as well as "Someone Like You" at a Stronger Tour concert in 2012. Many followers are now waiting for Adele to appear on Clarkson's latest "Songs and Stories" segment for a few duets and deep talks, as Pink did this week. Can you even imagine how incredible a Clarkson x Adele "Easy on Me" performance would be?

Kelly Clarkson is a fan of "Monster Mash" on Halloween

Kelly Clarkson has a cover, but the singer and talk show host may have outdone herself with her 31 October appearance. Clarkson performed "Monster Mash" by Bobby Pickett in honor of Halloween. But this was no simple cover. Clarkson reimagined the song as a rock and roll banger. The stage of her show's performance was also converted, turning the venue into a spooky campground. Clarkson plays a ghoul intent on bringing chaos and mayhem upon some unsuspecting campers. Clarkson also spoke about the scary forest set, revealing that they did film the album "like a music video." Her band performed as various spooky Halloween creatures, including zombies, ghouls, and vampires. Clarkson said of her own costume, "I'm kind of like a Stevie Nicks ghost."
