Bladee Life

Benjamin Reichwald (born 9 April 1994), also known as Bladee, is a Swedish rapper, singer, producer, fashion designer, and member of the Swedish band Drain Gang. He released his debut album Eversince in 2016 and his second album Red Light in 2018 through Stockholm's record company YEAR0001.

Reichwald also produces graphic art, which often appears as cover art for his debuts.

Reichwald also works as the creative director of Yung Lean's clothing company Sadboys Gear.

Early life

Benjamin Reichwald was born in Stockholm, Sweden, on April 9, 1994, and was mainly raised in the Skanstull area. It was here where, in 2004, he met fellow Gravity Boys member Zak Arogundade, also known as Ecco2k. When Reichwald was 13 years old, the two were classmates and formed Krossad (Swedish for 'crushed,') which sparked Reichwald's interest in music.

Reichwald began making music when working at a daycare center after leaving school.

Bladee Career

Career

In 2011, Reichwald released a few songs under the name Ken Burns, but it wasn't until 2012 that they began releasing music. He eventually became friends with Swedish rapper Yung Lean, who was a mentor of Reichwald's brother. Reichwald eventually sent a letter to Sad Boys member Yung Sherman on SoundCloud, urging to collaborate, which resulted in a professional friendship between his own Gravity Boys group and Lean's Sad Boys Entertainment. "Heal You // Bladerunner" from Lean's Unknown Death 2002 mixtape caught him by surprise from Lean's fanbase, which attracted him.

Reichwald's debut-mixtape, GLUEE, appeared on the Year0001 label in 2014 and was described as the "summertime anthem for a suburban generation of people stuck scrolling on Twitter." The mixtape was a hit on SoundCloud, with over 2 million plays. This mixtape, along with several singles going viral and a few pieces on Yung Lean's debut mixtape Unknown Death 2002, was able to propel Blades to underground hip hop fame.

Eversince is Reichwald's first album, released on May 25, 2016. The album received mixed reviews from mainstream media outlets, but underground and experimental critics were extremely welcoming. Reichwald's second mixtape, named after the group, was released in 2017. Red Light, his second album, will be released next year.

Icedancer, Reichwald's third mixtape, was released on December 28, 2018. This album was executive produced by Australian collective Ripsquadd, which also included production from Whitearmor and PJ Beats. Reichwald released EXETER, a nine-song album he recorded while living in Gotland with Gud, in April 2020. It is Gud's first Bladee project under the Year0001 brand.

Reichwald's third album and second project of 2020 were released in July 2020, 333 via Year0001. The album was mainly produced by Whitearmor, with additional work from Gud, Mechatok, and Lusi (Ripsquadd member), as well as Swedish band JJ's Joakim Benon. The absence of any vocal tracks, especially longtime collaborator and fellow Drain Gang member Ecco2K, who appeared on the previous three Blades albums, is not surprising.

Reichwald unveiled Good Luck via Year0001, the entirety of Mechatok's. In a livestreamed performance on December 10, both Reichwald and Mechatok performed all of the tracks on the album as well as an additional set from Mechatok.

Reichwald's fourth studio album, The Fool, was released in May 2021 by Year0001. Lusi, a frequent collaborator, produced the album.

Reichwald unveiled the single Amygdala in January 2022, in collaboration with Ecco2k and Mechatok. During the same year, Crest, a community project with Ecco2K, was announced by Year0001 in March. In Spring 2020, the initiative was completed.

Reichwald unveiled Spiderr on September 30, 2022.

On invitation from Matthew Williams, Reichwald and fellow Drain Gang member Ecco2K walked around Alyx Studio's S/S 2019 menswear show in Paris in July.

Reichwald's first solo exhibition of paintings Real Sprin9 was on view at the Residence Gallery in London between July and August 2021.

Reichwald unveiled a capsule Drain Gang collection in September 2021 in partnership with the American-Swedish clothing brand GANT.
