Following a string of violent attacks, crossbow owners could face police checks under government programs in order to minimize possession

www.dailymail.co.uk, February 14, 2024
The Home Office has started an eight-week inquiry to see if there should be a licensing scheme to regulate crossbow use, ownership, and supply. Anybody wanting to buy one could face police checks - similar to gun control laws. There is currently no licensing system for owning a crossbow, and no such thing exists for obtaining a licence. However, it is unlawful for anyone under the age of 18 to buy or own one, and a person carrying a crossbow in public without a valid excuse can face up to four years in prison.

It's time to bring the heat pump cowboys home

www.dailymail.co.uk, May 30, 2023
In a study that was released today, the Competitive and Markets Authority (CMA) warns that the hard sell of green heating products may prejudice customers. The authority, which is supposed to ban anti-consumer activities, is concerned that certain unscrupulous companies are exploiting a government target for the country to reach 'net zero' by 2050, resulting in consumer harm.

The great heat pump revolt: Couple forced to use plug in radiators and man installs log-fired boiler

www.dailymail.co.uk, March 8, 2023
XCLUSIVE: The government's Boiler Upgrade Program, which was launched in May, gives homeowners up to £6,000 if they take out their gas boiler and install an air or ground source heat pump. However, families who have bought heat pumps that have already installed - or bought new builds where pumps were included in the package - have reported a number of issues related to the technology. Rita Trotman, 76, lives in a barn conversion bungalow near Torquay with her partner Eric (right) and has been forced to use blankets at night after her device broke down five months ago. Ed Gyseman, a retired engineer (with his family, inset), pleaded with homeowners to avoid heat pumps, claiming they are a 'folly product,' Ian Howard and his wife Carole (left), both 59, live in New Alresford, Hampshire. During a renovation project, he installed a heat pump to future proof his house, but he was left with two log burners to keep his house warm.
