Bill Gaither Life

William James Gaither (born March 28, 1936) is an American singer and songwriter of Southern gospel and contemporary Christian music.

He has written several hit Christian songs with his wife Gloria; he is also known for appearing with the Bill Gaither Trio and the Gaither Vocal Band (GVB).

His career in the 1990s, as well as other southern gospel performers' careers, as interest in the Gaither Homecoming series increased.

Early life

Bill Gaither was born in 1936 in Alexandria, Indiana, to George and Lela Gaither. Bill Gaither Trio (consisting of Bill, Mary Ann (1945–2018), and brother Danny Gaither) formed in 1956 while a college student at Anderson College, to whom he had migrated after one year at Taylor University. He graduated from Anderson in 1959 with a major in English and a minor in music, after which he worked as an English teacher. In 1962, he married Gloria Sickal. He attempted to balance both a music career and a full-time teaching career for a few years, but he resigned from teaching in 1967 and began serving full-time in the Christian music business. In 1964, he recorded his breakthrough album "He Touched Me."

Gaither was inspired by Southern gospel singers like Jake Hess and Hovie Lister, as well as groups like the Speers, the Statesmen, and the Happy Goodmans.
