He was a member of Rockapella from 1988 to 2002, before leaving the organization in 2002.

Carl is best known for his deep voice, which he used during his time with the band to create an almost seamless sounding bass.

Carl has produced hundreds of television and radio advertisements for companies including Taco Bell, Charmin, Mounds/Almond Joy, Doritos, and Volkswagen; simulcasts; TV commercials; and commercials for animated characters in anime, video games, and commercials; and television commercials for Taco Bell, Charmin, Charmin, Charmin, Montefy, Cocobel, The Discovery Channel, and PBS; TV and Radio advertisements; and television commercials.

Early life

Carl's parents, who was born in Portland, Oregon, and a mother who was mainly focusing on sculpture, later moved to Los Angeles, where he grew up. Carl started playing the tenor saxophone at age 8, but a year later and switched to the French horn at age 10. He received many accolades and competitions for his horn playing, including the Los Angeles Music Guild Award (1963), the First Los Angeles Horn Club Award (1965) and two Coleman Awards (1966, 1967). Carl performed with every pro and semipro ensemble in Los Angeles, as well as the Strauss' Horn Concerto No. 1. 1 at his high school graduation, was the principal horn of Mehli Mehta's American Youth Symphony, the Cleveland Orchestra, and the American Ballet Theatre, and he spent three summers under Maurice Abravanel, where he performed Mozart's Sinfonia Concertante for Wind Quartet and Orchestra, Anton Schumann's Serenade for Wind Instruments. Winds are rated ten out of ten.

Carl won a scholarship to the Juilliard School in 1966 at the age 16, the youngest hornist to attend the academy on scholarship at the time, but waited until he graduated from Ulysses S. Grant High School in 1968 to attend the school in New York. Rainier DeIntinis, the 3rd chair hornist in the New York Philharmonic at the time, worked with him. Carl received two degrees from Juilliard, a Bachelor of Music in 1972 and a Master of Music in 1973, and appeared in numerous Broadway shows, the Merce Cunningham Dance Company, and three seasons with the New Jersey Symphony Orchestra during his time in the orchestra. At age 28, he took the horn to pursue his passion for singing.
