Personal life
Broka is one of three siblings; she has a brother Normunds Broks and actress sister Ieva Broka. Antons Broks and Mra Broka are her parents. Barbara (born 16 November 2008) and her son Teodors (born 12 March 2010), who has had a long-term relationship with film sound designer Gatis Builis, and two children: a daughter Barbara (born 16 November 2008) and a son Teodors.
Career
Born in Riga, Latvia, Broka began her film career with the 1992 Dzidra Ritenberga-directed drama Valsis ma garum (English translation: Waltzing Through Love), for which she received the Lielais Kristaps award, Latvia's highest award in cinema. Broka has appeared in the 2004 Varis Brasla-directed comedy Waterbomb for the Fat Tomcat, where she portrays the loving aunt Una who is forced to look after her two young nieces Marta and Linda. Several accolades, including the Children's Jury Award and the Lielais Kristaps award for Feature Film and Best Screenplay were given to the film at the Chicago International Children's Film Festival, USA.
Baiba Broka is perhaps best known internationally for her role as Brigita in the 1999 Latvian-Swedish co-production of the romantic drama film Svar med foto (English release title: Reply with Photo). Una Celma's film follows a young, lonely Latvian woman (Broka) who responds to a neglected Swedish scientist's personal ad (played by Samuel Fröler). Svar med photo was the first co-production equally funded by both Latvian and Swedish film studios. Broka has been a regular cast member of Latvian television series Neprta cena since 2007.
Baiba Broka has been recognized for her work as a stage actress and is a founding member of the New Riga Theatre.
