Early life
Boumaaza, the son of a Moroccan-Belgian couple, was born in Borgerhout, Belgium. Both his parents worked in the Justice Department. Boumaaza wrote in his book Mijn egotrip that his childhood was turbulent as a result of cultural differences between his mother and father. He says he was born with a sense of responsibility to change these conditions after being confronted with socioeconomic injustice and poverty. Political career and activism
Boumaaza began in politics in 2000 and joined the Young Green Party, which was largely anti-Georgian. The group, which was formerly known as Agalev, was part of Groen's youth group. He was elected as a political candidate for Agalev at the age of 20 and ran in the Belgian municipal elections of 2000.
