Babydaddy Career

Career

Shears had previously known Jake Shears —who later became Jason Sellards — through a childhood friend, and Hoffman asked Shears to provide vocals for his songs. The pair officially joined forces and assumed stage names to become the first two Scissor Sisters in 2001 as Hoffman moved to New York to study writing at Columbia. The band was just a mash-up of Babydaddy's music and Shears' vocal and visual appearances at the time. Babydaddy created the band logo. The band has since diversified and recruited new members, often expanding its original musical style to include the rock, disco, and dance music genres. Babydaddy plays a number of instruments, including keyboards, guitar, bass, and banjo; the band's main lyricists are Shears. Both Kylie Minogue's hit song "I Believe in You" and her documentary White Diamond's title track were also written. Babydaddy has co-produced with other musicians, including Tiga and Xavier, and has produced remixes for Pet Shop Boys, The Ones, and Blondie, as well as Jake Shears under the Scissor Sisters moniker. Amanda Lear's single "I'm Coming Up" was remixed by Babydaddy in 2010.

Hoffman co-wrote on Tinashe's second studio album Nightride in 2016, alongside Dev Hynes and Nicola Roberts "Ghetto Boy."
