HBO has pulled the plug on its long-running sci-fi series "Westworld." The announcement comes just three months after its season four finale aired on August 14th. Longtime viewers of the dystopian drama were transported to a future in which consciousness, both human and artificial, can be harnessed and moved to other planes of existence where reality is more vivid, more realistic, and deadlier than ever imagined. For several people, HBO's decision to end the series abruptly, particularly after cliffhangers in season four left the plot line open for a final season. "Westworld deserved a good ending to this show," one Twitter user wrote, while another Twitter user said, "westworld deserved a fifth and final season."

On Sunday's season four finale of Westworld on HBO, Charlotte Hale after a tense clash between human and hosts gave the game to Christina. Charlotte [Tessa Thompson] defeated host William aka the Man In Black [Ed Harris] before destroying herself in favour of Christina [Evan Rachel Wood] in a 'dangerous game.' Charlotte demonstrated her robotic torso and legs before removing her orb and smashing the pearl with her hand to dust in a final self-sacrificial act.

In the penultimate episode of Westworld Season 4, Charlotte Hale (Tessa Thompson) prepares for her robot species to change. Metanoia, the seventh episode's sole title, previews this change, with the word translated as a noun to 'change in one's way of life resulting from penitence or spiritual conversion.' As Charlotte is changing, Bernard (Jeffrey Wright) keeps hinting that the human race will be saved.
