Early life and education
Plaza was born in Wilmington, Delaware, to Bernadette, an advocate, and David Plaza, a financial advisor. Renee and Natalie are her two younger sisters.
Bread's "Aubrey" was named after the band "Aubrey" was played on the piano. Her father is of Puerto Rican descent; her paternal grandfather Ismael was born in Arecibo, Puerto Rico, and moved to the mainland United States when he was 17 years old. Her mother is of both Irish and English descent. She has also stated that she has Tanui ancestry.
Plaza said: "I was like the only privileged kid in my high school, and I'm half-Puerto Rican." Well, I have a large family and a slew of cousins in Puerto Rico, but "I have a big family and a lot of cousins." Growing up "very Catholic" in a Catholic household, she said the combination of that and movies is her "favorite thing ever" in her thoughts about her love of Christmas and movies. In 2002, she graduated from Ursuline Academy, an all-girls Catholic academy. She was president of the Wilmington Drama League and was active in student productions. She studied film at the Tisch School of the Arts in New York University, graduating in 2006.
Plaza died of a stroke when she was 20 years old that caused temporary paralysis and expressive aphasia. When walking the set of Parks and Recreation, she had a brief ischemic attack a few years later.
Personal life
Since 2011, Plaza has been in a relationship with writer and director Jeff Baena. Plaza revealed in an Instagram post in May 2021 that she and Baena are engaged, referring to him as "my darling husband."
"Girls are into me," she said in a 2016 interview with The Advocate. That's no surprise. Hey, I'm into them as well. I fall in love with both girls and guys. "I can't help it."
Career
Plaza has worked in numerous internships and even as an NBC reporter. Since 2004, Plaza has performed improvised and sketch comedy at the Upright Citizens Brigade Theater. She has appeared at the Laugh Factory and The Improv.
Plaza appeared in the television series The Jeannie Tate Show and as Robin Gibney in ESPN's Mayne Street. On Funny or Die, she appeared in the first episode of "Terrible Decisions with Ben Schwartz."
In 2009's Funny People, directed by Judd Apatow, she played Seth Rogen's love interest, Daisy. She appeared in Scott Pilgrim vs. the World and Derrick Comedy's Mysterious Team, as well as the Derrick Comedy's Mysterious Team, which premiered at 2009 Sundance. Jason Bateman and Will Arnett appeared in a CollegeHumor short film.
She competed in Parks and Recreation from 2009 to 2015. She received universal praise throughout the entire show for her work as the deadpan employee, being referred to as one of the show's breakout characters.
