Arthur Elgort Career

Life and career

Elgort was born in Brooklyn, to Sophie (née Didimamoff) and Harry Elgort, 1998, a restauranteur. He is of Russian-Jewish origins. He was born in New York City and studied art at Stuyvesant High School and Hunter College, where he studied painting.

Grethe Barrett Holby, a writer, stage director, and dramaturge, and three children, including actor and singer Ansel Elgort, live in New York City.

Elgort's career began as a photo assistant to Gosta "Gus" Peterson. Elgort's 1971 debut in British Vogue made a splash in the Fashion Photography world, where his rapidly changing "snapshot" style, emphasis on mobility, and natural light liberated the concept of fashion photography. He praised Mademoiselle for his big break in September 2008, telling Teen Vogue: "They were so brave and gave me a chance." It was the first time I was shooting a cover rather than a half-page here or there."

He worked with international and American Vogue, Glamour, GQ, Rolling Stone, and Teen Vogue, as well as shooting commercial campaigns with fashion brands like Chanel, Valentino, and Yves Saint Laurent. He still works for fashion magazines, as well as being on Via Spiga and Liz Claiborne's most recent 2009 advertising campaigns with Isaac Mizrahi. His work is on view in the permanent collections of the International Center of Photography in New York, in the Victoria and Albert Museum in London, and in the Museum of Fine Arts in Houston, Texas.

Elgort received the CFDA Board of Directors' Award in 2011.

Sam Morril, his brother's uncle, is his nephew.

Vogue reveals hilarious celebrity dog cover shoots aptly named 'Dogue'

www.dailymail.co.uk, August 15, 2024
Several celebrity dogs were ready for their closeup this week in their cover shoots taken in honor of summertime. The inspiration behind this Vogue shoot came after an editor spotted a Labrador puppy on the cover of the magazine in February 1997. This week, Vogue stepped into the lives of all these celebrity dogs for their aptly named Dogue covers, and got to know all of them personally and professionally.
