Cohn and Hollywood producer Mike Todd died in a plane crash in New Mexico in 1958.

Art Cohn Career

Career

Cohn was born in New York City. He began writing for the Long Beach Press-Telegram early in his career. He worked as a sports writer and sports editor with the Oakland Tribune from 1936 to 1943, which also published his sports column Cohn-ing Tower (wordplay for "conning towers). During World War II, he served as a press reporter. "Things seem to be happening where I happen to be" in January 1958, after being away from newspaper work for 14 years.

Cohn was a controversial opinion writer of the time; he "conflicted the sports industry with persistent concerns about racial equality long before the civil rights movement." He was also a boxing fan.

Cohn wrote on several television scripts, including: "The Bird of the Devil" by Cohn.

In 1957 and 1958, he wrote teleplays for unsold television pilots Plane for Hire and The Celeste Holm Show.

Cohn was the author of the Joe E. Lewis biography The Joker Is Wild, which was released by Random House in 1955, on which the film The Joker Is Wild (1957) was based. Cohn was writing The Nine Lives of Michael Todd, a memoir of Mike Todd that was edited by Cohn's wife and published by Random House in 1958.
