Early life
Rose Pengilly is the daughter of INXS member Kirk Pengilly and designer Karen Hutchinson. She started modelling in Year 12 and attended Wenona School, a girls' school on Sydney's North Shore. April Rose has been used to distinguish herself from her father.

Pengilly joined Chadwick Models in Sydney at age 16, then moved to Wilhelmina Models in New York after graduating from high school and becoming a youth ambassador for the 2006 David Jones Summer exhibition with Megan Gale.
