Anuradha Sriram (born 9 July 1970) is an Indian carnatic and playback singer who hails from Tamil Nadu, India.

In Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, Kannada, and Hindi films, she has performed more than 2,000 songs.

Early life

Anuradha was born in Chennai to Renuka Devi and Meenakshi Sundaram Mohan, a playback singer. She studied in Coimbatore at the St. Francis Anglo-Indian Girls School and later in Padma Seshadri Bala Bhavan, Chennai, India. She holds a B.A. and M.A. in music from Queen Mary's College in Madras University and has received the university gold medal in both courses. Wesleyan University, Connecticut, USA, was given a grant to pursue her Master of Arts degree in Ethnomusicology.

Thanjavur S. Kalyanaraman, Sangeetha Kalanidhi, and T. Viswanathan, among other well-known scholars, has pursued intense preparation under Pandit Mannikbua Thakurdas for Hindustani classical music. She is also a natural Western Classical opera singer, having undergone extensive preparation from Prof. Shirley Meier in New York City.

While in Wesleyan, she performed in several Indonesian and West African music concerts in addition to learning and performing western opera and jazz.

Personal life

Anuradha is married to singer Sriram Parasuram (whom she met at Wesleyan University). They have two sons, Jayant and Lokesh.

Murugan's brother, Anuradha, is also a playback singer.

Career

Anuradha has appeared on television and television shows throughout India and the United States, and has hosted several radio and TV shows since the age of 12. In the 1980 Tamil film Kaali, Anuradha Sriram first appeared in the Tamil Cinema Industry as a child actor. In 1995, she was introduced as a singer by A R Rahman for the film "Malarodu Malaringu." A R Rahman, Indira, was her first solo.

She has performed in over 1,000 concerts around the world, specializing in Carnatic music.

Anuradha has several chart-topping Devotional albums to her credit. "Elaame Sangeetham Thaan" is also a film that she and her husband Sriram Parasuram appear on as part of their Classical Music Jugalbandhi festival and their hit TV show "Elaame Sangeetham Thaan." She has also appeared on television several music shows.

"Nalam Nalam Dilruba" (Aasai), "Delruba Dilruba" (Aasai), "Meena" (Ram Jaane), "Phenk Hawa" (Ram Jaane), and "Pehli" (Zor).

Sivamayam, a British television series starring her husband, has composed music for the film Five Star and television series Sivamayam, which was produced by Radaan for Sun TV. She has appeared in films Anbe Sivam (2004) as a voice actress.
