Anupama Chopra (born 23 February 1967) is an Indian writer, journalist, film critic, and producer of the MAMI Mumbai Film Festival.
She is also the creator and editor of the digital platform Film Companion, which gives a curated glimpse at cinema.
She has written numerous books on Indian cinema and has been a film critic for NDTV, India Today, and the Hindustan Times.

Early life and background
She was born in Calcutta, India, to Chandra Parshad's family, and she has also lived in Badayun, a district in Uttar Pradesh. Navin Chandra was the eldest of the brothers and sisters. The grandfather of Anupama, who hails from Delhi, was an executive with Union Carbide, Kolkata. Kamna Chandra was a scriptwriter who wrote dialogue for films including Prem Rog (1982) and Chandni (1989). Chopra grew up in Mumbai with her brother and sister, where her family lived in Nepean Sea Road and then in Cuffe Parade. Tanuja Chandra is a film producer and screenwriter in India; Vikram Chandra, a novelist, divides his time between California and India, is a novelist. She lived in Hong Kong for many years as a child. She graduated with a BA in English Literature from St. Xavier's College, Mumbai, in 1987.
Chopra earned her M.A. in journalism from Northwestern University's Medill School of Journalism later in life. When she was at Medill, she received the Harrington Award for "academic excellence and promise for success in the field of magazine journalism." Career
Chopra began her career as a film reporter and critic and has written several books on film, especially Hindi cinema. She has written about the Hindi film industry since 1993 and has investigated cinema in a variety of genres – print, television, and digital. Sholay, her first book, received the National Film Award in 2001 for Best Book on Cinema (India). The Bravehearted Will Take The Bride), by Dilwale Dulhanya Le Jayenge (2002), was released by the British Film Institute as part of their Modern Classics Collection. On the annual "Editor's Choice" list of the New York Times Book Review, her book "Kharma" Shah Rukh Khan and the Seductive World of Indian Cinema was featured. It was also translated into German, Indonesian, and Polish.
