Antony Cotton (born Antony Dunn, 5 August 1975) is an English actor best known as Sean Tully in Coronation Street and as Alexander Perry in the original UK version of Queer as Folk.
He was named Let's Dance for Comic Relief in March 2013 by defeating fellow finalist Jodie Prenger.
Early and personal life
Cotton was born Antony Dunn, the son of actor Enid Dunn. He attended Woodham High School in Holcombe Brook, Ramsbottom, and the Oldham Theatre Workshop. Andrew is his elder brother. Cotton is a fan of the Terrence Higgins Trust and the 'Queer Up North' festival.
Cotton is "openly gay" in Digital Spy's August 2009 issue. Cotton had swapped rings with his partner, Peter Eccleston, in March 2010. Michael Ball, a footballer, was banned by the Football Association in January 2012 for a homophobic rant on Twitter about Cotton.
Career
Cotton currently plays barman and factory worker Sean Tully on Coronation Street, a role he has played since 2003. In the original UK version of Queer as Folk, Cotton played "Alexander." He has appeared in episodes of Absolutely Fabulous as "Damon." Cotton won the second series of ITV's Soapstar Superstar in 2007. He donated £200,000 to the Elton John Aids Foundation, which was donated by his winning money.
Cotton would appear on ITV in July 2007, and it was confirmed that Cotton would be fronting his own teatime chat show. The show, That Antony Cotton Show, was shot in Granada Television studios in Manchester, and mixed celebrity chat with topical humour. On August 13, 2007, it was the first broadcast. Following the conclusion of the first series, ITV announced that the programme had been cancelled and that no one would return for a second series. On September 20, 2008, he appeared on Family Fortunes winning £10,000 for his chosen charity. He appeared on Who Wants to Be a Millionaire in December 2008 with co-star Suranne Jones.
