He scored five goals in four appearances in the pre-season, and Lasarte's regular left-winger was chosen for the team's regular left-winger, which was unexpected for a youth graduate, rather than the reserve team entirely).

Griezmann made his competitive debut in the team's Copa del Rey match against Rayo Vallecano in the 77th minute of a 2–0 loss in the 77th minute. He made his league debut against Real Murcia four days later. With a 2–0 victory over Huesca on September 27, he got off to a good start and also scored his first professional goal. Griezmann scored his second goal of the campaign in a 2–0 victory over Salamanca two weeks later. In November 2009, he scored goals in back-to-back matches against Hércules and Recognitio de Huelva. The goal against the latter club was the only goal of the match. Griezmann was in the team for the remainder of the season, scoring two more goals in victories over Cádiz and Numancia as Real Sociedad advanced to La Liga for the 2010-11 season.

Griezmann's first professional contract started on April 8th, 2010, with the club's release clause of €30 million. He showed a keen interest in Ligue 1 clubs Lyon, Saint-Étienne, and Auxerre ahead of his signing the deal.

Griezmann made his debut in the Spanish first division on August 29th, the season's first match. In a post-game interview, he characterized the occasion as "fulling his childhood dream." Griezmann assisted in the team's first match since the September international break on a parachute equalizing goal against Real Madrid. Madrid won the game 2–1 after Cristiano Ronaldo's goal. In a 3–0 victory over Deportivo de La Corua on October 25, Griezmann scored his first goal in the league. He celebrated the achievement by pretending to drive a truck that was parked near the field. Griezmann scored the first goal in a 2–1 victory over Málaga a week later. Griezmann scored the team's only goal in the team's 2–1 loss to Hércules in November 2010. In the team's second match of the new year, he scored his second goal in the team's 4–0 victory over Getafe. Griezmann returned to his scoring form in March after going scoreless in the team's 2–1 loss to Racing Santander.

In Griezmann's first competitive match of the season against the defending champions Barcelona two weeks later, he scored the equalizing goal in a 2–2 draw.

In a Basque derby league match against Athletic Bilbao that culminated in a 2–0 victory for Real, another important goal was also on a volley, this time against Athletic Bilbao.

Atlético Madrid and Real Sociedad reached an agreement on the transfer of Griezmann for a fee that was expected to be close to his €30 million (£24 million) buy-out term on July 28, 2014. He passed the medical exam the same day and signed a six-year deal on July 29th.

After the match had ended 1–1 after extra time, Atlético lost 5-3, but Leo scored in the penalty shootout.

Griezmann renewed his Atlético deal on June 23, 2016, which will keep him at the club until 2021. Griezmann scored both of Atlético's goals (with his second in the 93rd minute) in their 2–1 home win over Rostov in a 2016–17 Champions League Group D match, allowing Atlético to advance to the round of 16 with two games to spare. He scored the only goal of a win at RCD Espanyol on April 22, 2017, making him the second Frenchman after Karim Benzema to score 100 La Liga goals in 247 games.

He extended his deal at Atlético in June 2017 after learning that the club had been banned from signing a transfer ban and that it did not have a replacement after another trophyless season and amid rumors that he might leave Atlético for Manchester United after the 2016-17 season. His reported release price had also been increased to €100 million (£87 million).

Griezmann received his first red card after a draw against Girona on August 19th and was banned for two matches. He was first banned for diving in the penalty box, but his reaction to the referee earned him his second time. After achieving eight goals and two assists during the month, including seven against Sevilla and four against Leganés, he was named La Liga Player of the Month for February 2018. His second goal in Atletico's 4–0 victory over the latter was his 100th goal for the Atletico, becoming just the third player of the 21st century to do so after Sergio Agüero and Fernando Torres.

Griezmann completed a contract extension with Atlético on June 19, 2018, following months of rumors linking him with a €100 million (£88 million) move to Barcelona, which came after Atlético reported Barcelona to FIFA for a alleged illegal move against Griezmann in December 2017. After triggering his €120 million buy-out clause, Barcelona revealed the signing of Griezmann to a five-year deal on July 12, 2019. Later that day, Atlético Madrid contested Barcelona's contract to buy the player, arguing that Griezmann did not agree to move to the Nou Camp before his €120 million buy-out clause was reduced to €120 million. As a result of any agreement, Atlético later announced that they had "initiated the procedures that it considers appropriate for the protection of its legitimate rights and interests." He was introduced at the Camp Nou on July 14th and was given the number 17 shirt in his debut in a pre-season friendly against Chelsea. Some Atlético Madrid fans defaced Griezmann's plaque outside the Wanda Metropolitano on the day as the club officially filed a lawsuit to La Liga, but a tweet later stated "La Liga has [yet] to determine [the] course of action."
