Early life
Anthony James was born in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, on July 22, 1942, as the only child of Greek immigrants George Anthony (1893-1951) and Marika Palla (1913–2008). He later reversed the order of his given name and surname for his acting career.
Career
During the series's run, James made several guest appearances on the Western television series Gunsmoke, most often portraying Elbert Moses. Beno's Galaxy; The High Chaparral; Bonne, Arizona; Charlie's Angels; Charlie's Angels; Buck Rogers in the 25th Century; Hunter (1984); Quincy, M.E. : Star Trek: The Next Generation; and Beauty and the Beast.
James has appeared in a number of major Hollywood films as well. Ralph, the diner counterman in 1967's In the Heat of the Night, which received an Academy Award for Best Picture in 1968, was his first major role.
