Evans appeared on NBC's The Voice in its second season. He sang "What's Going On" from Marvin Gaye in the blind audition broadcast on February 20, 2012. During the blind audition, only Christina Aguilera turned her chair, with the other three (Adam Levine, CeeLo Green, and Blake Shelton) abstaining. Jesse Campbell, another Aguilera contestant, was dropped on Team Aguilera as a defaulter in the Battles round against another Aguilera contestant. They performed "If I Ain't Got You" by Alicia Keys on Saturday, with Aguilera choosing to hold Campbell after an epic musical confrontation. Evans was the first judge to use the "steal option" for other judges, so the show was still missing it.
Evans' sixth studio album, Real Life/Reality Worship, was released on April 8, 2014 by Fair Trade Services after The Voice. It was his most commercially profitable album debut, according to the artist. By the Billboard Hot 200, the album debuted on the Billboard this week, at number 60 most popular album in all of the United States. The album debuted on the Top Christian Album chart for the same week. In addition, the album debuted at number two on the most popular Top Gospel Albums chart.
