Luanne Ruth Schedeen (born January 8, 1949), also known as Anne Schedeen, is an American actress who worked primarily in television.

Kate Tanner appeared on numerous television appearances in the 1970s before starring in the lead role on the television series ALF from 1986 to 1990. Schedeen began her career in 1974, appearing in small television roles, and was cast in a supporting role in the sci-fi horror film Embryo (1976).

She has since appeared on Emergency Rescue! In the mid-to-late 1970s, Three's Company and Three's Cooperative were involved.

She appeared on the short-lived series Paper Dolls opposite Lloyd Bridges and Lauren Hutton in 1984.

Emily Phillips appeared on the hit comedy series "Cheers" (Season 2 episode 20), before appearing in all four seasons of ALF.

She appeared on Judging Amy in 2001 and reprised her role.

Early life

Luanne Ruth Schedeen was born in Portland, Oregon, on January 8, 1949. Betty Jane (née Moore), her mother, was also a native of Portland. Roland E. 'Poly' Schedeen, a fisherman and a former Oregon State Senator of Swedish descent, was her father. Sjodin was her family's name before its Anglilicization. Schedeen has two younger siblings: Sarabeth and Tony; as well as one older half-brother, Brinkley (1946–2009), who was born in Schedeen.

Schedeen referred to herself as an introverted child, "I was so introverted as a little girl that I'd crawl under the dining room table's skirts and just listen to the adults." Schedeen's mother enrolled her in youth drama classes to help her become "more confident with the world." Schedeen studied and performed with the Portland Civic Theatre. Schedeen grew up on a farm outside Gresham, Oregon, and attended Gresham High School, graduating in 1967. Schedeen attended Portland State University and later, Fort Wright College in Toppenish, Washington, after high school. On the Kauai island of Hawaii, her first professional acting job was with a dinner theater. She then migrated to New York City to pursue an acting career.

Personal life

Schedeen met her husband, Christopher Barrett, as a result of a stage performance in 1972. On the tenth anniversary of their first marriage, the two couples married in 1982. Taylor, the couple's daughter, was born in 1989.

Schedeen was named ambassador for Holiday Heroes in 2015, a Bulgarian-based non-profit group supporting homeless families.

Career

Schedeen first worked in summer stock theatre and commercials before committing to Universal Pictures as an actor, which then moved to Los Angeles. Schedeen appeared in a recurring role as Carol in the series Emergency!, and she appeared as Dr Marcus Welby's daughter, Carol Porter, in 12 episodes of Marcus Welby, M.D. She appeared in Embryo, co-starring Rock Hudson and Diane Ladd, in which she played the daughter-in-law of a doctor (Hudson) who develops humans by using growth hormones.

She appeared in Champions: A Love Story in 1979, and then appeared on many episodes of the comedy series Three's Company from 1977 to 1982. Schedeen appeared on Paper Dolls (1984), co-starring Lauren Hutton and Morgan Fairchild.

Schedeen is best known for her appearance on the NBC sitcom ALF, in which she portrayed a mother who takes an alien into her house. ALF was a commercial success, and it attracted international attention. She appeared in Perry Mason: The Case of the Maligned Mobster (1991), followed by supporting roles in the television film Praying Mantis (1996) and the 1996 thriller Heaven's Prisoners, starring Alec Baldwin and Kelly Lynch.

Schedeen appeared on Judging Amy as a regular guest-starring role in 2001.
