Anna Shaffer (born 15 March 1992) is an English actress and singer best known for her role as Ruby Button in the Harry Potter film series's teen soap operas Hollyoaks and Romilda Vane.
In the forthcoming Netflix series The Witcher, she plays Triss Merigold.
Early life
Shaffer was born in North London to South African parents; her mother is of mixed race and her father is Jewish. She has a brother. She studied at Highgate Wood School and completed her A Levels at the Camden School for Girls.
Career
Shaffer appeared in Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince as Romilda Vane, the fourth year student who attempted to use a love potion on Harry on Harry. She would then reprise her role in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 1 and Part 2.
In December 2010, the Liverpool Echo announced that eighteen-year-old Shaffer would be playing Ruby, Duncan Button's sister (Dean Aspen). Shaffer first auditioned for the role of Leanne Holiday, but she was later cast as Ruby. Shaffer filmed in Liverpool, where Hollyoaks is shot. In late 2010, she started filming her scenes. In the episode broadcast on January 3, 2011, Shaffer made her first on-screen appearance as Ruby. Shaffer was expected to leave Hollyoaks in May 2011. Nevertheless, this was denied, and a show rep told Digital Spy, "We don't want to spoil the storylines for the viewers, but we can announce that Anna Shaffer will be with Hollyoaks for the foreseeable future." Shaffer left Hollyoaks in 2014 but returned in November 2017 and April 2018.
In a discussion with Digital Spy on November 23, Shaffer said she loved her time in Hollyoaks and playing Ruby, but she wants a new, fresh start. We film in Liverpool, and I'm a little bit sad to leave but I'm sure it'll be sad to leave. On February 13, Shaffer played Ruby on film after being tossed off of Hollyoaks as Ruby. Rachel appeared in one episode of Glue in 2014 and in 2016 appeared in two episodes of Class.
In late 2018, it was revealed that Shaffer would play Triss Merigold in the forthcoming Netflix series The Witcher.
