Anna Marie Quindlen (born July 8, 1952) is an American author, reporter, and opinion columnist. In 1992, her New York Times column, both public and private, received the Pulitzer Prize for Commentary.

She began her reporting work with the New York Post in 1974.

She served at The New York Times from 1977 to 1994.

One True Thing (1994), Meryl Steedeep and Renée Zellweger's semi-autobiographical book, served as the basis for the 1998 film.

Life and career

Anna Quindlen was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, on July 8, 1953, the niece of Prudence (née Pantano, 1928–1972) and Robert Quindlen. Her father was an Irishman and her mother was an Italian American. Quindlen graduated from South Brunswick High School in 1970 and then attended Barnard College, where she later graduated in 1974. Gerald Krovatin, a New Jersey lawyer who met her while in college, was married to her partner. Quindlen Krovatin and Christopher Krovatin are published writers, and Maria's daughter Maria is an actor, comedian, and writer.

Anna Quindlen left journalism in 1995 to become a full-time novelist.

She joined Newsweek in 1999 and spent a bi-weekly column before announcing her semi-retirement in the magazine's May 18, 2009 issue. Quindlen is known as a critic of modern American life's fast-paced, increasingly materialistic rhythm. Quindlen was 19 years old, and a large portion of her personal writing revolves around her mother, who died of ovarian cancer.

She has written nine books, some of which have been turned into motion pictures. In 1998, One True Thing was turned into a feature film. Meryl Streep was the lead actress of the film, which received an Academy Award nomination for Best Actress for the role. In 1999 and 2003, respectively, Black and Blue, Blue and Blessings were made into television shows.
