Ann Brashares (born July 30, 1967) is an American young adult novelist.
She is best known as the author of The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants series.
Life and career
Brashares was born in Alexandria, Virginia, and with her three brothers, she grew up in Chevy Chase, Maryland. She attended elementary and high school at the Sidwell Friends School in Washington, D.C., where she worked as an editor for 17th Street Productions after studying philosophy at Barnard College. Alloy Entertainment acquired 17th Street, and she spent a short time with Alloy Entertainment after the purchase.
After leaving Alloy, she wrote The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants (2001), which became an international best seller. It was followed by three more titles in the "Pants" series, The Sisterhood's Second Summer (2005) and Forever in Blue: The Fourth Summer of the Sisterhood (2005). In 2005, the first book in the series was turned into the film The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants. In August 2008, the sisterhood of the Traveling Pants 2 was based on the other three books in the series. The Last Summer (of You and Me), Brashares' first adult book, was published in 2007. 3 Willows: The Sisterhood Grows was the first companion book to the Sisterhood series, and Sisterhood Everlasting, the second companion book, was published in 2011. My Name is Memory, her second book for adults, was published in 2010 and has been optioned for film. The Here and Now, Brashares' youthful-adult time travel book, was published in April 2014.
