Anjan Dutt (born 19 January 1953) is an Indian film producer, actor, singer, and musician. Anyodharar gaan (alternative music) is a term used by the 1991 Bengali music scene, reminding of western folk music.
His music is reportedly influenced by blues, bluegrass, folk, and country music. He started his career in Bengali cinema and is also a good actor.
Chalachirto, directed by Mrinal Sen, was his first film at the Venice Film Festival, in which he received the award for the best newcomer actor.
Mr. and Mrs. Iyer, Aparna Sen's hit film, starred him.
He appeared in Swapnasandhani's latest play Taraye Taraye, as Vincent Van Gogh, under Kaushik Sen. He is also a national award-winning filmmaker and is one of Bengali cinema's most well-known filmmakers, directing "Dutta Vs Dutta" "Madly Bangali","Madly Bangali","Madly Bangali","The Bong Connection, Chalo Let's Go," Ranjana Ami Arashbona, and Teng Gus.
He has been in charge of the Byomkesh Bakshi film series in recent years.
Early years
Anjan Dutt was born in the mountains of North Bengal. He received his education from St. Paul's School in Darjeeling.
He founded Open Theatre in the late seventies and performed plays adapted from those of renowned international playwrights like Sartre, Peter Weiss, Jean Genet, and Bertold Brecht. The group clearly got inspiration from Nandikar, a very active and well-known theatre company at that time. They encountered many challenges in creating and performing their art, and, eventually, the company stopped its repertoire due to political sentiment.
Dutt was the first chosen in the film Chalachitro, directed by respected filmmaker Mrinal Sen. The film and its performances at the Venice Film Festival were critically acclaimed, but it was never released commercially. Dutt said he was more interested in doing art cinema than in conventional mainstream cinema. After making a few art films that weren't so commercially lucrative, such as the critically acclaimed Juganto, the lack of job opportunities pushed him to work in advertising and then as a reporter for the Kolkata-based daily, The Statesman.
Personal life
Anjan Dutt's marriage to Chanda Dutt has been confirmed. They have a son together, Neel Dutt, who is a music director of the Indian industry.
Singing career
At the time, Dutt was heavily inspired by Bob Dylan's music, Kabir Suman, who had heralded a new age in Bengali music by his songs. These songs and lyrics, who often refer to Jeebonmukhi (literally meaning "towards life"), were concerned with the tough reality of Bengali middle-class social life in and around Kolkata.
