Angelo Badalamenti (born March 22, 1937) is an American composer best known for his film scoring for director David Lynch, notably Blue Velvet, the Twin Peaks saga (1990-1992, 2017), The Straight Story and Mulholland Drive.
Badalamenti received the 1990 Grammy Award for Best Pop Instrumental Performance on his "Twin Peaks Theme," and the American Society of Composers, Authors, and Publishers also gave the Lifetime Achievement Award to the American Society of Composers, Authors, and Publishers.
Early life
Badalamenti was born in Brooklyn, New York, to an Italian-American family; his father, who was Sicilian descent from the town Cinisi, was a fish market owner. At the age of eight, he began taking piano lessons. Badalamenti was a teenager when he was given the opportunity to play at summer resorts in the Catskill Mountains. He attended Lafayette High School. Then enrolled at the University of Rochester's Eastman School of Music, but after two years, he enrolled in the Manhattan School of Music, where he earned a bachelor's degree in 1958 and a master's degree in 1959.
