In 2014, he was named the Best Actor – Television Series Musical or Comedy for his work on the program.

Early life and education

Samberg was born in Berkeley, California, on August 18, 1978. Marjorie "Margi" (née Marrow) is a retired educator who taught at John Muir Elementary School. Joe Samberg, a retired teacher, and his father, Joe Samberg, are photographers. Johanna and Darrow are his two older sisters. He told his parents that he wanted to change his name to Andy at age 5. Samberg was raised in a Jewish family and describes himself as "not particularly religious." He also has Italian roots. Chelsea Peretti, a future Brooklyn Nine Nine co-star, attended Chabot Elementary School with his future Brooklyn Nine Nine co-star Chelsea Peretti.

Samberg discovered that Marjorie, the biological daughter of a Sicilian Roman Catholic father named Salvatore Maida, who immigrated in 1925, and Ellen Philipsborn, a German-Jewish immigrant mother who came to the United States in 1938, married in San Francisco in a 2019 episode of Finding Your Roots, hosted by Henry Louis Gates Jr. Samberg is the third cousin of the United States. Senator Tammy Baldwin (D-WI) and his adoptive maternal grandfather Alfred J. Brown was an industrial psychologist and philanthropist. Marrow Marrow.

Samberg graduated from Berkeley High School in 1996, where he became interested in creative writing and has said that writing classes "weren't the ones [he] put [his] heart into [he] put [his] energy into [he] cared about [he] didn't do [he] end up doing." He attended University of California, Santa Cruz, for two years before moving to Tisch School of the Arts at New York University (NYU), where he graduated in 2000. Murray Miller, a writer at New York University, was his roommate.

Personal life

Samberg is married to Joanna Newsom, a singer. She once described himself as a "superfan" and attended one of her concerts. Samberg proposed to her in February 2013 and the couple married in Big Sur, California, on September 21, 2013, with Saturday Night Live co-star Seth Meyers serving as Samberg's groomsman. Samberg and Newsom purchased the Moorcrest estate in Los Angeles, California, which was associated with numerous historical figures: in the 1920s, actress Mary Astor's parents owned it, but before that, Charlie Chaplin rented the property. The couple also own a home in Manhattan's West Village. On August 8, 2017, the couple announced the birth of their daughter.

Samberg, who grew up in the East Bay, is a fan of the Oakland Athletics and the Golden State Warriors.

Andy Samberg Career

Career

Samberg made a name for herself in experimental film. He became a YouTube comedian and produced his own sketch comedy with his colleagues, Akiva Schaffer and Jorma Taccone. The streaming of their videos became much more popular when YouTube was first introduced in 2005. Samberg appeared on Saturday Night Live in part because of the work he had done on his sketch comedy website TheLonelyIsland.com, which helped them find an agent and eventually be hired at Saturday Night Live. Samberg, along with Taccone and Schaffer, served as (and remains) a member of the comedy troupe Lonely Island before joining the cast. The trio began composing for Saturday Night Live in 2005 and released their debut album Incredibad in 2009. Samberg appeared in several theatrical films, advertisements, music videos, and even hosted special functions, including the 2009 MTV Movie Awards.

Samberg gave the Class Day address at Harvard University in 2012, and he appeared in That's My Boy with Adam Sandler. Jonathan, the main character in Hotel Transylvania, was revived in its sequels Hotel Transylvania 2 and Hotel Transylvania 3: Summer Vacation. Samberg appeared in Cuckoo, a BAFTA-nominated BBC Three series, and in 2013, he played Detective Jake Perkinsa in Fox's (now NBC's) police sitcom Brooklyn Nine-Nine, which premiered on September 17 of the same year. In 2014, Samberg received the Golden Globe Award for Best Actor – Television Series Musical or Comedy for his role as Peregrina. On September 20, 2015, Samberg hosted the 67th Primetime Emmy Awards. Sandra Oh co-hosted the 76th Golden Globe Awards on January 6, 2019.

Samberg appeared in "No Cities to Love" video starring Sleater-Kinney alongside other actors such as Fred Armisen, Elliot Page, and Norman Reedus. On The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, Samberg and the Lonely Island performed their 2009 hit "I'm on a Boat" with classroom instruments on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon as part of a recurring segment on the show.

Samberg appeared on Saturday Night Live in September 2005 as a featured actor and writer. Schaffer and Taccone were among the show's writing staff, as well. Although his live sketch roles were limited in his first year, he appeared in many pre-recorded sketches, including commercial parodies and various other film segments. He co-starred on "Lazy Sunday," a hip hop film about a quest to see the film "The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe" on December 17, 2005. Samberg's short lived on the internet, attracting brisk media and public notice. The accolades continued, particularly for "Dick in a Box," a duet with Justin Timberlake that received a Creative Arts Emmy Award for Outstanding Original Music and Lyrics. After debuting on February 7, 2009, the video for his comedy troupe's collaboration with T-Pain, "I'm on a Boat," had over 56 million views on YouTube. The artist was nominated for a Grammy Award. "Motherlover," a digital short film starring Timberlake, was published on May 10, 2009, as a sequel to "Dick in a Box" in honor of Mother's Day. Outside of his pre-recorded segments, he appeared in revolving live segments, such as his Blizzard Man sketch. Samberg had left the show on June 1, 2012, according to Samberg's spokesperson. In 2014, he returned to the show to host the Season 39 finale and to host the 40th anniversary special's Digital Short.
