Andrzej Pikul (born 7 June, 1954, in Krosno) is a Polish pianist. Pikul graduated from the Academy of Music in Kraków, where he studied under Tadeusz Zmudzinski, and the Hochschule für Musik und Darstellende Kunst in Vienna in the piano class of Paul Badura-Skoda (1981–83). * He performed in masterclasses with Regina Smendzianka (1975 and 1979), Alexander Jenner in Lenk (1981), Tamás Vásáry (1982), and Asis (1983) and Vlado Perlemuter in Paris (1983). Aleksander Tansman's recordings include works by Aleksander Tansman (Suite for 2 pianos & Orchestra), Karol Szymanowski (Sinfonie concertante) and Alberto Ginastera (complete piano works). Pikul has given lectures and masterclasses around Europe, America, and Asia (Universidad de Brasilia in Brazil, Osaka College of Music and Theater in Japan, University of Music and Theatre Leipzig, Universidad de Aveiro, Portugal). * He was given honorary citizenship from La Serena (1994) and Iwonicz-Zdrój in Poland, where he founded the Prince Michal Kleofas Oginski Festival. He has participated in many piano competitions: Concorso Internationale di Esecuzione Pianistica (1999), Concours de Piano "Premi Principiat d'Andorra" (1999), The Ruislip-Northwood International Music Competition (2004, 2004), The fourth Chinese Works Piano Competition in Hong Kong (2008). He has been teaching at the Academy of Music in Kraków, where he has also been Dean of the Instrumental Faculty (1996-99) and Vice-Rector for International Affairs (1999-2002). * 2002-2003, I spent time as a visiting professor at Kobe College, Japan. * He founded the International Summer Academy of Music in Cracow in 1999, an annual initiative that features masterclasses and concerts given by the majority of eminent performers. * He was named chairman of the Piano Department in 2010.
