Andrew Shaw (born July 20, 1991) is a professional ice hockey player currently playing for the Chicago Blackhawks of the National Hockey League (NHL).
He has also played for the Montreal Canadiens.
In the 5th round (139th overall) of the 2011 NHL Entry Draft, he was drafted by the Chicago Blackhawks. In 2013, and 2015, he won the Stanley Cup with the Blackhawks.
Early life
Shaw grew up in Belleville, Ontario. Many, including his own family, believed his younger brother Jason had the best shot at the NHL when he was growing up. Jason played for the University of Ontario Institute of Technology before becoming a player in the Ontario Hockey League. Shaw also has an older brother named Josh and an older sister named Alex.
Personal life
Shaw is known for sporting a black rubber bracelet with 'Ironworkers Local 721', the name of a local union in Belleville, on the back in honor of ironworkers from his hometown and as a reminder of his roots. For his day with the cup, he brought the Stanley Cup back to his hometown. Shaw sold the stitches from his facial injury—made popular as "the definitive picture of the NHL playoffs" in August—for $6,500 and donated the funds to The V Foundation for Cancer Research.

Playing career
Shaw made his OHL debut with the Niagara IceDogs in a September 20, 2008 match against the Ottawa 67's. In a game against the Plymouth Whalers, he scored his first OHL goal. Shaw had his first assist in a game against the Kitchener Rangers at the Kitchener Memorial Auditorium Complex on November 14, 1994. Shaw finished with 17 points (eight goals and nine assists) overall in his OHL rookie season, ranked second on his team with 97 PIM in 56 regular-season tilts.
Shaw scored a goal and two assists in his first multi-point game against the Sudbury Wolves on October 17, 2009. He was playing in Sudbury's first-goal game on January 2, 2010. Shaw had the game-winning tip-in of the first game of the Finals on June 12, 2013, giving the Blackhawks a 4–3 win over the Boston Bruins. Shawn Thornton took a puck off Shawn Thornton's stick and face in the first minute of his sixth (and final) game of the Finals. He collapsed to the ice and lay in a tiny pool of blood. Officials suspended the game and Shaw was aided to his feet and repaired in the dressing room. Shaw recovered in the second period and hoisted the Stanley Cup with his wounds still partially bleeding. Shaw revealed that he had a broken rib while playing in the Stanley Cup Finals after the season ended. Shaw earned the Stanley Cup by scoring nine points and having 35 penalty minutes in the playoffs.
Shaw intentionally headbutted the puck into the Anaheim Ducks' net in game 2 of the Western Conference Finals on May 19, 2015. In the third overtime session, the goal was called off by the game's referees, but the Blackhawks eventually won the game after a goal was scored with 3:48 remaining.
In a playoff match against the St. Louis Blues on April 19, 2016, Shaw scored one goal and two assists. Later in the same game, he yelled a homophobic insult at a referee who had been suspended for his interference. Shaw later apologised for the remarks. After the final horn, he sparked a brawl. Shaw was banned from playing for one game and fined $5,000. Shaw had four goals and two assists in the playoffs.
Shaw was traded to the Montreal Canadiens in 2016 during the NHL Entry Draft in exchange for two 2016 second-round picks. Shaw signed a six-year contract with the Canadiens worth $23.4 million three days later on June 27, just three days later. During a preseason game played on September 26, the NHL suspended Shaw for three games for boarding Connor Hobbs. On October 13, Shaw scored his first goal with the Canadiens. Shaw slew footed Johan Larsson of the Buffalo Sabres at the end of the game, sparking controversy.
