Andrew Robertson Life

Andrew Robertson (born 11 March 1994) is a Scottish professional footballer who plays for right back for Premier League club Liverpool and captains the Scotland national team. Robertson started his senior career with Queen's Park in 2012 before joining Dundee United a year later.

He was named SPFA Young Player of the Year and made his international debut in his first season as a professional.

He joined Hull City in July 2014 for a fee of $2.85 million before joining Liverpool in July 2017 for an undisclosed fee, which was reportedly an initial £8 million.

In his first two seasons, he reached second place in the UEFA Champions League finals, winning the second in 2019.

He was selected in the PFA Team of the Year in 2018-19 Premier League for his efforts in the 2018–19 Premier League season. In May 2014, Robertson made his international debut for Scotland, and he was appointed Scotland captain in September 2018.

Personal life

Robertson is a practicing Roman Catholic. He is married to Rachel Roberts, who were married in 2022 during the summer. Rocco, Roberts' son, was born on August 26, 2017. Robertson's first book, Robbo: Now You're Gonna Believe Us, was published in September 2020, primarily focusing on Liverpool's 2019-2020 campaign. All funds raised from the book will go to Robertson's foundation, which helps underprivileged children in Scotland.

Andrew Robertson Career

Early life and career

Robertson was born in Glasgow and was a childhood Celtic fan. Brian'Pop', his father, who grew up in the Maryhill area (specifically the Wyndford estate, where he was a childhood friend of footballers Jim Duffy and Charlie Nicholas), was an avid amateur player, but a back injury barred him from participating in sports as a career.

He attended St Ninian's High School in Giffnock, East Renfrewshire, from 2006 to 2012, where he captained the football team. He was also the junior captain of his local golf club in Glasgow, and he was a natural golfer. He also played for Giffnock Soccer Centre and joined Celtic as a youth, but was banned from playing at under the age of 15 because he was thought to be too small. He later signed for Queen's Park.

Club career

Robertson, who was focusing on his studies, was on the verge of starting university at an undergraduate level before being called up to the Queen's Park first team in the 2012–13 season. In a penalty shoot out victory over Berwick Rangers, he made his debut for the club in the Scottish Challenge Cup, and went on to make a total of forty appearances during the season, leading the club to a third-place finish in the 2012–2013 Scottish Third Division. In a 2–1 loss to East Stirlingshire on November 13, the club's first goal was scored.

Robertson and Queen's Park teammate Aidan Connolly joined Dundee United in June 2013; he took over the squad of the departing Barry Douglas, who had made the same move three years ago. Protesters in Douglas, Queen's Park (an amateur club) had been refused a transfer fee, and they eventually agreed on a contract that would include a slew of future transfers, which would later be beneficial.

Robertson made his first team moves as a manager Jackie McNamara, winning by 0–0 with Partick Thistle on the first day of the season. In a 2–2 draw against Motherwell on September 22, Robertson scored his first goal for Dundee United. He started from his own half before launching a low left-foot run into the goal from 22 yards. He signed a new deal with United shortly thereafter, but not before May 2016. He was named SPFL Young Player of the Month for September 2013 and Player of the Month for November 2013. Robertson lost 3-1 on April 12th, 2014, when he met Rangers in the Scottish Cup Semi-finals at Ibrox. Robertson earned the PFA Scotland Young Player of the Year award in April 2014 and was also named in the PFA Scotland Team of the Year for the 2013–14 Scottish Premiership. His last game for United was when they lost the 2014 Scottish Cup Final to St Johnstone.

Dundee United accepted a bid from English Premier League club Hull City in July 2014. Robertson was hired on July 29th, when he had agreed to a three-year deal with Hull. "I'd been investigating Stuart Armstrong but [Robertson] was the no brainer," Hull City's chief scout, but he had a history with Celtic and was always a tenacious lad given how he'd recovered from his setbacks." You could see straight away that he had talent and that he could only get better."

In a 1–0 win over Queens Park Rangers on the first day of the season, he made a goal-line clearance on his first day of the season. Robertson landed at Hull and established himself in the team's Player of the Month competition for August 2014. In his first season at the KC Stadium, he made 24 appearances, but the team was unable to prevent the team from being relegated to the Championship.

Despite the surprise of several other first-team players' arrivals, Robertson opted to remain in City. In a 2–0 victory over Brentford on November 3, the team's first goal was scored, putting Hull second in the Championship table on goal difference. He began the 2016 Championship play-off Final against Sheffield on Wednesday, which Hull won 1–0 to secure promotion to the Premier League. However, the team was only in the top flight for one season before being relegated again.

Everton scout Steve Walsh had recommended Robertson and fellow Hull defender Harry Maguire to move in a £20 million contract, but Everton refused the bid.

Robertson signed a long-term deal with Liverpool on July 21, 2017, for an initial cost of £8 million. He made his debut in a 1–0 win over Crystal Palace on August 19th, winning the Man of the Match award. Robertson began the 2017-18 season as an understudy to Alberto Moreno, but he missed a few games in December after being hospitalized. Liverpool supporters lauded his performance in the 4-3 win over league leaders Manchester City on January 14th. On the last match day of the 2017-18 season against Brighton & Hove Albion in a 4–0 victory. He scored his first goal for the club.

Robertson began playing for Liverpool during the 2018--19 season, when Liverpool were runners-up in the Premier League. In January 2019, he agreed to a new one with the club, which will continue until 2024. Kevin Kilbane has been praised as the best left back in the Premier League and Phil Neville has been rated as the best left back in the world by Phil Neville. Robertson had 11 assists in the 2018-19 Premier League season. Trent Alexander-Arnold, Sadio Mané, and Virgil van Dijk were among his PFA Team of the Year's most outstanding youngsters on April 25.

Liverpool beat Tottenham Hotspur to win their sixth European Cup on June 1, 2019. Robertson played the entire 90 minutes of the Champions League final on Sunday. He was the first Scot to win the tournament since Darren Fletcher (an unused replacement in 2008) and the first Scot to play in a winning team since 1996.

Robertson scored his first European goal in the European champions' first home game of the 2019-2020 campaign on October 2nd in a dramatic 4-3 victory over Red Bull Salzburg. Robertson scored his second Premier League goal for Liverpool, equalizing in the 87th minute against Aston Villa, with Liverpool eventually winning 2–1 in stoppage time.

Robertson played two goals and 12 assists for Liverpool throughout the 2019-20 domestic campaign.

Robertson signed a new long-term contract with Liverpool on August 24.

International career

Robertson was first chosen by Scotland's under-21 team in October 2013. In a 2–1 victory over Slovakia as a replacement, he made his debut as a substitute. In November 2015, Robertson was chosen for the under-21 team as the full national team did not have a fixture.

On March 5, 2014, Robertson was first named in the full Scotland squad for a friendly against Poland. In the second half, he came on as a replacement as Scotland defeated 1–0 in Warsaw. "Andy came on there and picked it up for the first time," Scotland boss Gordon Strachan said later. I thought, 'that's amazing.' There is no such thing as a black spot, so I'm going to do what I do. I loved getting that first touch." In a 2–2 draw with Nigeria on May 28, Robertson made his first appearance for the national team.

In a friendly against England at Celtic Park in November 2014, Robertson scored Scotland's first goal as they were defeated 3-1.

Scotland captain Alex McLeish appointed Robertson on September 3, 2018. Robertson said that both he and fellow left-back Kieran Tierney were playing out of place in McLeish's 3–5–2 system, which was designed to fit both players after a 2–1 loss against Israel in October 2018.

Robertson scored the first goal of the game against Cyprus on June 8, 2019 in a UEFA Euro 2020 qualifier against Cyprus. Scotland won 2–1. He was one of five Scotland players to withdraw from the national squad due to injury in November.

Scotland qualified for UEFA Euro 2020, with Robertson as captain, after a 5–4 victory over Serbia on penalties. It was Scotland's first major tournament appearance since 1998, snapping a 22-year streak of not qualifying. Robertson captained Scotland in their first game of Euro 2020, but the Scots lost 2–0 to the Czech Republic on June 14th. Scotland was knocked out at the group level after losing to the Czechs and Croatia both on either side of a goalless draw with England.

Robertson earned his 50th cap and subsequently joined the Scottish FA International Roll of Honour in September of that year. In his next game, he led the team to a 1–0 away victory over Austria; one of his teammates, Paul McGinn, played alongside Robertson almost nine years ago when they were with Queen's Park in the fourth division of Scottish football (he had been reunited at international level with another Queen's Park colleague, Lawrence Shankland, in 2019).

SCOTLAND 1 SWITZERLAND 1 Pride restored as brave Scotland keep alive hopes of reaching knockout stage

www.dailymail.co.uk, June 19, 2024
TEDDY ROOSEVELT, the late American president, once said that nothing in the world was worth having or worth doing unless it meant effort, pain and difficulty. Scotland's national football team have never known any else. It's an ingrained way of life. Shuffling from the RheinEnergieStadion, the well-oiled, hoarse rank of the Tartan Army nursed a mixture of emotions. Pride, relief, anticipation and that old familiar feeling of anguish. When Grant Hanley attacked an Andrew Robertson free-kick after 66 minutes, the game was finely poised, the tension choking the city of Cologne. Two inches to the right and Scotland would have secured only their seventh win in a major international tournament in 34 attempts. Alas, it wasn't to be.

Scotland stars are walking on eggshells ahead of Euro 2024 opener against Germany following fitness scares for Robertson and Shankland

www.dailymail.co.uk, June 10, 2024
SCOTLAND assistant manager John Carver says they are now being 'extra cautious' after injury scares for Andrew Robertson and Lawrence Shankland ahead of Friday's Euro 2024 opener against Germany. Manager Steve Clarke has already lost Lyndon Dykes, Ben Doak, Lewis Ferguson, Aaron Hickey, Nathan Patterson and Jacob Brown from his squad for the finals. And Carver said the removal of Robertson and Shankland from yesterday's first day of training in Garmisch-Partenkirchen was a precautionary measure after so many injuries.
